Quick trip report

Just a quick trip report from Two Rocks a couple weeks ago before the recent bad run of weather. First time out from two rocks since the reopening of the boat ramp and first time out with my boat this year due to a hectic work schedule.

The girlfriend and I did an allnighter last Sunday, having finished work at 4am in the morning and getting to the two rocks ramp early in anticipation for an early bite and make the most of the predicted 6 knots with no swell. Unfortunately forecast was wrong and we were greeted with a sloppy start to the day, a fresh 15-20 knot easterly making it quite brisk and uncomfortable till 11am.

With no hesitation from all onboard we decided to stay in close and fish the 30-40s to test out the light gear in the hope of getting her onto her first WA dhufish. A few small undersize dhufish were accounted for and dropped back on the release weight in the morning, great to see such a healthy fishery. The only fish of significance to be a nice 6kg dhu on a smith meijuime jig from my brother, which was quickly dispatched on ice.

The wind swung from the north coming toward the afternoon, hence shut the fish down making Jana's chance at that dhu a bit more tricky. Decided to come in a bit closer to the coast which payed off. Dave again managed a nice keeper with a Breaksea on the same jig he was using in the morning.

Hit a nice showing on the sounder in 28m and Dave once again hooks onto a small sampsonfish bringing up with it a few of his mates. With this I tell Jana to jig her plastic up the water column a bit quicker to entice a seriola species on her 10lb outfit for a bit of fun. I manage to get onto a small model myself before Jana's rod comes up solid also.
With a small hard first run followed by a few head shakes it had us guessing whether she had a sampsonfish. After handling the light gear with impressive technique for a beginner, up popped another size dhufish to our suprise. Careful not to snap the scuffed up 30lb flourocarbon leader we manage to boat her first Dhufish, and on a plastic too. Smiles and hi fives all round. Can safely say she's got the fishing bug and now I have the impossible task of trying to find more time to take her out for a jig.

Great day had by all we decided to head back in by 3pm cruising at 30 knots on what turned out to be a glassy afternoon on the water with the sun shining on a successful first outing.

Thanks for reading.
Rob
