mateford bearings are larger

Sun, 2012-08-12 17:43

mate

ford bearings are larger than holden and yes you can have holden bearings in a ford hub and vise versa

the stud pattern of the wheel has nothing to do with it. you can have ford bearings in a mini 4stud pattern if you like

if it has a 40mm round or square axle it will be holden bearing for sure, if it has 45mm square or 50 mm round then it could be ford which are usally called slimline bearings.

another way of telling is by knocking the dust cap off, you will have to remove the castle nut.(get a freind to do it) if the end of the axel is 3/4inch defo holden.

if its is 7/8inch its ford.

they will both be 3/4inch at the thread but the ford will step up to 7/8inch were the bearing sits, the holden will remain 3/4 all the way through

i spent 15years in the game mate so if ya like give me a call, pm me and ill give ya my number

good luck

Agree that's what i did popped the dustcap looked at the part numbers

The query was because i was no where near my boat to be able tocheck as its up the coast

Also noticed that the hub has ht embossed in the cast which helped

Holden bearings

Ht holden hub
40mm square axel which i also noticed that dunbuir have a bit of info in the FAQ section of their website for anyone else

Cheers for all the feedback guys

yeh mate yours will be the early ht stud pattern, most run hq.

when i was in the game we used to use mini, gemini, cortina, toyota, valiant, holden ht/hq and ford in a 4 and 5 stud all of which would run on holden bearings.

even the early ht was a differant bearing!!! so not all holden bearings are the same, but vary rare to see ht bearings these days, i dont even think axles are made for them anymore.

yes mate your proberly right,

yes mate your proberly right, but i would bet $50 bucks that it has holden HQ bearings.

and your right, they will use what is avail for less $$$$ at the time, most of them lately are using 13' ford mag wheels, like the 4WD sunraisers, but will still be HQ bearings.

assholes should stick with one stud pattern for 13' and 1 for 14', would make things alot easier.

you cant even go to the wreckers and pick up a 13' ford rim for a spare cause they dont make them, they were 4 stud in 13'

The xp and I think the earlier Ford ute used a 13 inch 5 stud pattern. I found a spare set on farm ute that was rusting away, give the bloke a carton. Also ford, valliant and toyato 5 stud interchange, but you need to check the offset. The axles rated 3/4 tonn or 1 tonn should have "holden" bearings , and the 1.25 tonn axles "ford" bearings. In my old buisnes we used to sell the chinees bearings for $14 a set, including seal, they would last about 5000 km if you were lucky, and not being tight on the axle, would wear that as well. A set of toyo, timken, or other good quality bearing costind $20+ would fit the axle properly, and if looked after by good service/ keep the water out, will last 10's of thousands of km.
