Quobba boating advice

Hey all.

Have a crew going to quobba for a while from this Friday and just want a bit of advice from those who would be kind enough to share it. I have read as many posts on quobba as I could search for alrerady but would like some other info.

I am taking my 5 meter glass boat up and just want to know what the go with boat fishing up there is- where to launch, is there reef to negotiate, better places to go etc. I am planning on launching at one of the beaches and either trolling just off the cliffs or sounding around for some good ground and giving it a go. Does anyone have any experience with boat fishing at quobba, not after co-ords or anything just a bit more knowledge on boat fishing up there. I have heard lots of reports that the sharks are quite bad at the moment up there and am thinking I might have a better chance of landing more from a boat. Any advice appreciated

Cheers

Vince

Vince boaties launch at blowholes beach which is south of quobba.  I haven't launched my boat there before but there should be heaps of mackies around at the moment.

I reckon canarvonite will have a bucket full of info

pretty sure you launch at the blow holes beach. i was there 3 weeks ago and it was almost impossible to land a fish from the cliff. you would get sharked with in 5 minutes. Sharks have died down as of late. i was there on the weekend and landed 3 macks and dropped another two. none of the fish got sharked. In saying that there is always plenty of sharks there. fish heavy and get your fish in quick.

The only two spots to launch

Wed, 2012-07-11 20:04

The only two spots to launch are at the blowholes or up at gnaraloo. No ramp just soft beach, a third wheel on your boat trailer will help a lot. There's plenty to look out for at the blows swell being probly the main thing  if it's any where up around 3 meters the whole bay starts to close out.

Wind isn't really to much of an issue. Where you launch is inside a coral lagoon of sorts. If its good enough to head out it won't be an issue at all.

It can be boggy getting the boat in and out but just take some Maxtrax it case you get into trouble.

We had no real dramas getting in and out early on this year at the blow holes.

Hope the pics help

We had to use a 2nd car and a 60m tow rope extension when retreiving our old 26ft Glass boat from the blow holes 2 months back, Great fishing though, Trolling for macks the whole time, plently of sharks too.

Let your Tyres right down

Thu, 2012-07-12 17:08

We put our 17ft pacemaker and a friends 5.5m genisis in the Blows all the time.  The trick is to let your tyres right down to 8-10psi and either have a third wheel and then snatch the boat out or a second car ready to snatch boat and car out.  The wind hasn't been very good at here at the moment and I don't when it will get better.

SWest

Head SW from the blows to Darwin or Fitzroy reefs, that is where most of the macks get caught trolling on lures on the big sand patch off Quobba homestead.
