Replacement VHF Radio

Twice bitten, my GME radio has died well not quite but the channel read out has gone blank.....bluntly they are crap but I seek feedback on a better replacement .....I am leaning toward an Icom as had a great run with a 701 when I was a ham operator but the marine environment is a harsh one so what to wreckers think?? Or recommend

Lowrance link 5

Tue, 2016-07-26 16:43

I've got a brand new in box Lowrance Link 5 that I never ended up installing as I worked out that the issue I had with my old VHF was the cable from the antennae. I think I paid $250 at the time but happy to let it go for $200 ono

VHF Replacement

Tue, 2016-07-26 15:16

Gee You Bring back some memories , got my 701 new in 1979 was my first HF rig.

the main choices for a dedicated vhf marine would be Icom or Vertex=Standatrd Horizon both of which come under the Yaesu /Motorola Brands.

i run a Motorola GM339 Commercial radio with all vhf marine (no dsc) of course and all 2m Band repeaters and simplex frequencies plus what ever else you like in the vhf spectrum

Send me a pm if you want somemore info

getting the bottom line final answer from a bunch of blokes that use false names and put smiley faces at the end of paragraphs is not the best place in the world to get the information you seek.

A company that is base3d in Australia and produces (manufactures)an item which unfortunately doesn't stand-up against imports.
Yes the imports cost more, when making high quality products those 2 things go hand in hand.

Totally agree

I try to shop local, support local tackle stores and buy Australian wherever possible but bluntly GME need to lift their game massively, stop trying to be cheaper and focus on quality.
