Retirement.... WHERE
Submitted by Maverick on Fri, 2008-02-22 19:09
G'day guys , just going on from the homeless thread , when the time comes where do you see yourselves retiring to , I would love to go NORTH , I want to go to Darwin or somewhere near there but the wife doesn't want to go that far but everything in the Norwest is so expensive .
With all my broken bones I can't stand the cold so it has to be somewhere warm to H O T (and near the water).
So what about YOU!!!

G'day MavSeems like
G'day Mav
Seems like Kalbarri is a bit of a gerry mecca. Still nice and warm, good fishing with plenty of options. 6 hrs to perth, 8-9 to Exxy. Reasonably priced. And did I mention WINDY. Still blowing 25+ kn outside. Has been all week. Still I no complain.
Cheers Mick
ps And someone on the explorer hooked a lil black not too far offshore the other day. Very nice. High five

The price of blocks in that eco flora estate just keep getting cheaper. I think there is a lot of poor cockies up that way having to sell off stuff to stay afloat

Mindarie
If I had the bucks I wouldn't mind buying one of those houses on the water at Mindarie. Always fancied sitting on my balcony with a rod out.

Hi Ya, 40' coach converted
Hi Ya,
40' coach converted to a mobile home with trailer on the back. Trailer with electric lift to raise boat 16 - 18 foot high enough to cater for 4x4 beneath. That way I can retire to where ever the fancy takes me.
Cheers.

Exmouth or Walpole
Probably go either Exmouth or Walpole, when it gets cold down there then up to Exxy, too hot up here, down to Walpole. Sounding like a blue rinser already. :)

I've done it!
When my time came it was 15years before I expected.....so it was off to sunny climes and a rod off the balcony (well almost).
The MOST important aspect is to be prepared financially.
Then if/when the opportunity presents itself you can give it up and live the life.
The real secret is to start your preparation NOW.
Here is a few tips from someone who's done it:
*Check out places yourself ie; go there and chat to the locals.
*Determine accurate housing costs - DO NOT ask an estate agent, ask the locals.
*Get qualified - if you don't already have a skippers ticket.
*Build-up your fishing gear stock because it will surely cost more in later years (I built my marlin rods 8years before I caught my first marlin on them).
*Learn the language if possible or if its required.
*Ensure your lady is 100% behind you, she is an ally and an asset, treat her as such.
Keep fit and healthy - you do want to live to enjoy this retired life don't you?
*Lastly never think that it will be your last move.
Personally I think you live in Gods own country, look no further than your own shores.
