Rigging pre-rigged Tuna skirts to braid?
Submitted by beau on Thu, 2011-05-05 02:00
Hey guys, im pretty new to using braid so just a quick question, how do i tie a pre-rigged xmas tree or richter tornado to my braided line? The leaders on the skirts seem to have a loop thats crimped at the end, do i just use a snap swivel to connect it? If so, do i tie a bimini twist to the clip?
Using a bimini twist still confuses me, I've only used the GT knot so far where you use the actual loop created by the bimini, but how do you tie your bimini to a swivel? Or dont you use a bimini for terminal tackle? Do you just tie a knot as normal and pretend ur looped line is a single strand?
Hope this makes sense to someone as im planning on heading out early in the morning!

Best to tie a leader on, so
Best to tie a leader on, so you don't tie braid to terminal tackle.
I tie a richter clip on, pretty much only when I'm trolling, then cut it off again for casting.

Bimini and Albright
Depending what I'm chasing, I normally use a bimini twist, then attach that to a leader using an albright, crimp a swivel onto the other end of the leader, then use the swivel to attach the lure.

use a leader
Theres a few options but if you're trolling with those lures use a leader. Tie a double ie bimini in your braid then use a Richter windon leader (connect via catspaw) but if you dont want to run a premade windon leader atleast do a double uni knot (braid to mono).
Then, tie on a small quality ballbearing swivel & clip thats strong like the Richter brand and clip that to your lure choice.

Multi cats paw if you have
Multi cats paw if you have to, but just go a leader as suggested above. Then a good snap swivel. Without a leader you will have very little stretch if the lures line isnt somewhat close to your mainline.
