Rod racks for home..
Submitted by Ben01 on Fri, 2014-05-16 19:19
Just wondering what everyone uses at home for rod storage??
I've basically got a whole spare room for my gear and was thinking about buying a standalone type rod rack except after quite an exhaustive search online there isn't a hell of a lot around.
I've seen the okuma plastic version and from a thread search on here found a couple of guys saying it's very light and unsturdy, which won't be too good for me given my 'gear room' has carpet floor.
i did find a pelagic extreme alloy fishing rack on ebay for $79.95 in a variety of colours and holds 24 rods, but very difficult to tell if it would be any good. (Trying to paste a link but it won't let me for some reason).
Anyone care to weigh in with ideas/suggestions???

I am planning to build a cupboard type, with lockable doors for my garage. Although Im not sure if I would leave all my gear there or put some of the best stuff away elsewhere.

my thought is too look at the shop type holders and build one yourself, my mate made one with timber and the wire hooks thats screw in by hand and are covered in rubber, simple grooves at the bottom and the hooks at the top. cant be any more then 10 pieces of wood plus screws

I bought a wooden one made by Jarvis Walker.
Pretty sure I bought it at BCF and it holds about 16, with 8 on each side.
Cost about 30 bucks and you couldn't make it yourself for that, I just made sure that I used plenty of PVA wood glue when I screwed it together to make it nice and sturdy.

Gday Ben, They are only made
Gday Ben,
They are only made of chip board so there isn't a lot of weight to them.
I have mine on a concrete floor and it stands well and doesn't wobble around so is quite stable.
If the carpet was a short pile I couldn't see an issue but if the carpet was a deeper pile it would probably be worth adding some wider "feet" to the base to help with stability.

I screwed some 40mm pvc plumbers pipe to the side my cupboard that i keep all my gear in. Only problem is there's only enough room for 6 rods... since my collection has evolved lately i'm thinking about just buying a 2.4m x 300mm plank and doing the same thing, should fit around 14more rods :)then just dynabolt it to the wall job done

Similar to steve
I went to Ikea and bought an upright set of draws, then screwed a couple of rapala rod racks to the sides.
that way I can keep all my leader, lures ect in the draws and my rods on the side.

go to stratco or office
go to stratco or office works and buy one of those metal cabinets. Mount rod racks inside on back and sides and then you got yourself lockable storage for your rods. Depending on length of rods you may still be able to leave one shelf in. Or you can use a filing cabinet and screw rod racks to side and use the drawers for storage

i have fitted racks to the ceiling of my garage. All of the rods hang horizontally with the butts in a wooden cradle and the lengths supported by plastic coated hooks. Keeps them out of the way and away from damage. I have been hanging rods like this for 15 years and have never seen any "set" develop in the rods.

I have one from complete angler rockingham. Made out of pine and screwed together. It has 24 slots for rods, if you have reels on then you could probably get 16 or so in it. It cost me around $100 but if you have the time and tools you could easily make one.
