Sounds bloody confusing when you read  all the info.

Not sure why fisheries posted it on the 8th Jan, but is in effect as of January?  Someone is likely to be fined thinking they are within there limits, as no Internet out that way.

The only reason I know is they stopped us on the way out of Steep point. They were there just to inform people of the rule. Even they aren't sure if the track to Steep Piont is within the boundary or not.

I can understand the 5kg of Snapper fillets, but I think IMO the normal trip limits should apply for other fish.
eg; 5kg of snapper (skin on) as I normally do with all my fish & 1 days bag limit for the rest with a maximum trip limit of say 15kg.
We usually get a few Baldies & Macks when we are there.
Do we have to throw them back because of the new limits ???
Mind you, give me a Baldie over a Pinkie any day.

It didnt take that many years for rec anglers to wipe the snapper out there.  It was like shooting fish in a barrel when we were kids.   There isnt heaps of species in the estuary. Mainly bluebone and snapper.  The water is hypersaline and most species wont go that far up.  Having a reason for people not to go there still will hopefully see snapper stocks keep improving.   Saddly lots of people can only justify there trips if there are lots of fillets in the freezer and even with these limmits it still might not be enough to protect them from overfishing again.
