What's the shame? A great fish and an obviously stoked fisherman. Don't know it till you try it.

who cares
It's his choice what he does with it, have it for dinner, feed the dogs, feed the neighbours, use it for berley, its legal so it doesnt matter. What does matter is how much of an epic battle it would have been! Sure he would have felt like he was drowning a few times.

gotta be stoked with that
gotta be stoked with that one. when the sambo are treated right they are great on the tooth. they cook up well in a nice sauce or curry too, nice firm flesh and hold together well.
would have been a great fight on the spear unless it was a kill shot

We came into Ocean Reef mid morning yesterday after an overnight on Rotto - Land based guy was hauling in something big I thought it must be a shark.
However, it was a massive sambo!!!
Got a picture, and if I had not seen it myself would not haver believed it.
Cheers

Heard about this - my son and his friend were fishing off the wall and watched the fight. He'd be stoked to see the pic if you could post it!

Good effort.
Killer fish!! already seen the pic on WAUC.
There is nothing wrong with shooting a Sambo, no difference if he shot a Dhuie of the same size/age. He still ate it and would have given a kick-ass battle compared to a dhuie. I would take a Sambo fight any day of the week and twice on sundays.

Well Dreamtime, I don't think I would ever be desperate enough to pose for a photo with a couple of squid like its a big deal but each to his own I guess.

Cook them up in Lemon
Cook them up in Lemon Pepper, basically any spice to tone down the fishy flavour and they taste awesome!!! Like Mackerel and Skippy cross between each other.
