We bought an adaptor for my wifes Telstra sim card and switch on international roaming on her plan. The sat phone worked with that. It cost $5 per minute or somthing crazy but in life or death situations then cost is nothing...

 Slugger,apparently you can

 Slugger,

apparently you can just insert your SIM card into the sat phone as long as you’re with Telstra. I just asked the same question on Facebook and got good response. You just have to have international roaming on. Can be expensive if you want to talk a lot but if it’s just a requirement it should suffice.

 We have ours through Pivotel

We have ours through Pivotel using Thuraya. Costs us $15 per month, plus calls. Haven’t needed to use it yet, it’s just in case.
