Selling Etiquette

Not good form when you have a verbal agreement on the phone and have distance stopping a pick up of item for a few days, only to have a message that its sold . No apology or sorry , Doesn't that s#$t ya !  Not just me is it ?

Tue, 2012-06-19 20:25

Happened to me last week agreement by pm.  Then the punter who jumped the que lost interest.  So the seller came back to me.  I was thinking of dropping the price on principal.

Dont worry there are still a few people around that keep there word

name and shame or set up some for of rating system?

getting the bottom line final answer from a bunch of blokes that use false names and put smiley faces at the end of paragraphs is not the best place in the world to get the information you seek.

Same. PM to say wanted to

Wed, 2012-06-20 12:34

Same. PM to say wanted to pick up an item at a certain date. Then never turn up and when I asked if they still want it, no reply. Not one person but few.

Got so fed-up I decide not to sell the item and keep it for my own use.

Another incident this bloke is selling jig and I told him I can only collect after work. He said he will reserve for me. When I call up again before leaving office, he told me they are all sold.

i love it when ppl pm you and say if you get desperate "ill take it for $xxx" usually 30% less then your reasonable asking price.

Or you have a back and forth with someone then at the end they say will you take $xxx its all ive got.

Cheers.

Wed, 2012-06-20 16:46

Just to update , the guy text me back , apology and another reason for pulling out of sale . I did send a blunt text previous saying a few not so nice comments , but he has come good and said still avail. Even said he felt so bad he would throw in some 20lb braid for the hassle ! I couldn,t accept , felt bad for him !

I went lookn at a boat, liked

Wed, 2012-06-20 22:54

I went lookn at a boat, liked it, requested a water test, the bloke suggested meet back at his joint next morn ( seabreeze was in) only for him to ring me a few hours later to say he sold it!

when your talking big bucks

Thu, 2012-06-21 09:21

when your talking big bucks on boats that it was fair enough. First in first served IMO.A boat yard may have 5 people looking at a boat, all 5 water test it but its the first to come in with the money isnt? What if the guy he sold it to tested it before you? i know it was the next day and all,but he might of water tested weeks ago and only just then came up with the money? i dont exaclty know the whole scenario.

I use to breed alot of cichlids/ Cat fish growing up for aqauriums and you would always get the whole hold it, then never come kind of thing. its very very frustrating.

So all the minor stuff i can see what everyone points

get over it

Wed, 2012-06-20 23:28

first in best dressed...i have had heaps off things for sale(never fishing gear) cars ,boats.household items...I WILL BE THERE IN 2 DAYS.so you hold it /knock back buyers ...they dont show...some are geniune some are not ...name and shame ??????why ???if you want something go and get it .or at least give deposit if you are waiting for pay to go in bank...it works both ways in my book....everyone must see both sides ...not being nasty to anyone but verbal agreements mean nothing sorry ...how many people on site have held something for someone and they never showed up...???

Agree and disagree. People

Thu, 2012-06-21 07:41

Agree and disagree. People need to show a little moral decency when it comes to stuff like this. If someone asks me if I'll hold it I'll tell them straight no because of being mucked around before (I get this kind of crap all the time with my business). It's basically first in best dressed gets the goods. Saves both parties any grief.

agree also

Thu, 2012-06-21 07:49

the number of people who say "I definitely want it, hold it for me please" then 2 days later "I didnt know it was THAT colour" etc

Just say straight up, "its still for sale til its sold"
