Serpentine falls
This afternoon i went down to Serpentine falls with my brother expecting to go fishing and discover what it has to fish. When we got their the ranger was thier, we asked him if he knew any good spots, but he replied that you may not fish at all, because it is a national park, i had put a lot of research in and even on the freshwater fishing liscence for 2009-2010 it says waters open all year round, including the serpentine river between the pipehead dam and the serpentine falls, i also asked him if he knew of any fish living thier and he said that thier wouldn't be a single one.. but in the moring in checked the fisheries government site and it stated that thier had been 12,000 trout fry released into the serpentine river... iam not sure if the ranger was telling the truth any one got any idea's or thoughts on this??

There could be monster fish
There could be monster fish in there but at the end of the day, if the ranger says no fishing, I wouldnt be fishing at all.

Don't believe
them for one minute. I live in the area and my brother inlaw is a local ranger. Without going in detail and embarrassing this usless taxpayer funded mob don't listen to them. They think they are the law but what they should be doing is upholding the law.

have fished that stretch
have fished that stretch before and there are fish in there and last i checked they stock it. it is also open all year! funnily enough one time i was up there i bumped into a member of the WATFAA (west australian trout and freshwater angling association) who made it pretty clear to me that i was wasting my time up there even though he was there!! seems they are a protective bunch! cant blame them but either way its a beautiful stretch of water and worth a crack. the ranger obviously didnt know what he was talking about.

No Perch in there just
No Perch in there just cobbler and trout, you're only allowed to fish from the Pipehead to the top of the Falls. Take the footbridge downstream of the Falls cross the river and head upstream or you can get in there off Scarp Rd if my memory serves me right.
Gooralong Brook flows into the same stretch of river and is worth a look. Can be accessed via Jarrahdale.

As a general rule
As a general rule for fishing in the Serpentine River from Pipehead Dam to the Falls you only need a current fresh water fishing licence. The area is under the control of 3 Government Departments - Water Corp, CALM (D.E.C) and WA Fisheries. The car park fee cannot be charged to you if you have a current Fresh Water Fishing Licence as this is termed "double dipping" BUT if you are able to camp there a fee for camping and will be charged (some hope hey).
There is Fresh Water Cobbler and Rainbow Trout that range in size from "small" to "nice one mate" throughout the system.History dictates that the river must have a flow due to some political decision many years ago.
Any fly rod angler or lure fisherman must explain to the gate keeper/ranger that they are going fishing BUT remember if you don't leave the car park at closing time you will have to stay there until the gate is unlocked the next day - no this is not termed camping.
There are a couple of areas outside the gate access road to park if you plan to stay "late" so to speak.Only have 1 rod set up at a time or you will be "pinged".
Off there sometime in the next 3-4 weeks to keep the "official" honest and use dry flies on my 2 weight outfit.

I live in Armadale, so if
I live in Armadale, so if this turns out to be a legit spot which can be fished in accordance with rangers/government departments than that would be fantastic. Wonder if I wear my Department of Agriculture uniform I can slip through the cracks with the rangers haha as rangers let me slide usually when visiting reserves.
I will have to apply for my fresh water fishing license ASAP so I can give this a try!
Cheers Redfinman!
