Hey there
my mate sent me this photo recently, he was fishing on an oil rig and caught a small shark, he reckons that a massive shark just smashed it he almost had it to the platform. i have never seen anything like it, didnt think they were cannibals!. I guess it may of been a in the bubbles spur of the moment attack!

Pro fishing
Used to pro shark fish from Exmouth nearly to Broome and the best we had was four shark heads and a big tiger on one hook trace, one had hooked up and been eaten and found itself hooked up and so on untill there was four and the big tiger.
Any shark that came aboard with pups, the livies went back to grow up and the dead ones became tomorrows bait, and magic bait at that.
Have some footage somewhere of a dusky whaler approx a metre in diameter and what would have gone 4 metres long bitten in half with one clean bite.

I was thinking the same thing! You can from some of them though. Wish you could from ours considering the number of big table fish around.

caught and released a largish
caught and released a largish 6' black tip off garden island today...had a big fresh lovebite around it's midsection ...I suppose it's partly a easier target and also I think they sense the panic in a hooked fish and just switch on to a frenzied attack mode regardless of what it is...

Surely its not canabalism if
Surely its not canabalism if they are different species of shark.
Fish eat fish - baitfish, etc.

It's not about the fish, it's about fishing.

Cannibalism
Its cannibalism at it best, once one is hooked its fair game to any shark around, same specie included. Sandbar whalers like the one pictured are no different from any other shark and will turn on each other if one is injured.
