Shimano Trevala jig rods

http://www.meltontackle.com/catalog/Shimano_Trevala_Jigging_Rods.html

Stumbled upon this while cruising thru the net for deals...isit something new?? How does it compare to the saltist or even jigwrex rods? Haven't seen it in any of our local shops as well...

Basic model goes for USD99 but the F model looks really sweet and for 199USD...thinking of getting one shipped over.

it scares me that they rate some of those rods from 80-200lb .... can anyone stand up to anything over 50lb of drag for more than a few minutes ??? with a drag setting of 60-80lb i would snap in half - the rod might be fine but im sure i wouldnt be :)

yeh I have doubt myself as well. If you try to compare the jig wt to the line class it doesnt make sense. I suggest stay away from those rods unless you have seen them "physically"

Gday guys: first post here, great site. I bought a trevala rod last year, the TVS66M spinning model, and I must says it's a great rod for the $$. It's supposedly rated for 30-65lb braid ... which is ridiculous, but it IS a fantastic rod for 30lb braid. It will stretch pe3 to the limit, which I reckon is pretty amazing for the price. The closest I've seen to it is a Hiramasa 63 (nicer but 4 X the price)...I liked the 66M so much I just bought its big brother, the 66MH for use with 50lb braid.

Pix

Gday Andy

I've added three pix to the brag board...me with popper-eating mack, my bro with a big GT and the weapon, trevala with Freams attached. I'm based in HK but get back to Cape York for a week or so every year, when I do most of my fishing. Heading out to christen the 66MH in three weeks time...
