Imagine getting caught in this nasty stuff...there's only one former legend from here , that would've gone out in that...

That's crazy. I wonder if another ship or a chopper was taking the footage of the boat. Mad skipper

that brings back memories of tuna fishing out on the 110 line out from sharkbay! 40ft swells n nowhere to go! just sit back in the wheelhouse with a cuppa and enjoy the ride! and bigbankcrayfishing setting pots in breakers bigger than the boat! all in good fun! its only water!!

Tasman sea
Helped sail a 25 metre trawler across from Auckland to Freo, had swells running between 14 and 18 metres plus 50 knots head on. Trying to jam yourself in a corner to grab an hour or so sleep a day for 4 days wasn't funny.
Bass Strait with 40 knot north easters down from Eden was a breeze compared to that. Total of 22 days at sea with stop overs in Eden and Albany and a get on the piss with old mates in Bunbury.
Done it once and would never even consider it again.

How do you deal with that sort of thing mentally carnarvonite? Is it all "I'm going to die!" or is it just a case that you know what the boat is capable of so it's more about toughing it out and hoping it goes away sooner rather than later so you can get some sleep, have a decent meal etc?

Hang on
Its just a case of keep the nose into the weather and hang on. Forget about trying to cook because its a non event, so coffe and instant noodles are about all you are going to get.
The boat was the same one picture on the news recently during the re opened coroners inquest to the bloke who went missing off Port Hedland 11 years back, it is a sistership of the boats feature in the movie Perfect Storm. It weighed around 180 -200 ton and quite a few times we were driven backwards when we copped some big greenies, thank heaven it had big freeing ports to get rid of the water on the rear deck. There is always the thought that you could turn round and run with it but that leaves you in real danger of broaching and rolling and in that sort of weather was near a suicide move so it was grin and bear it.
