Soft Plackie Trout Bash Karri Valley

Finally caught some decent trout -- caught four in total the biggest was released as it was 57cm.

Seem to be a pretty hard fish to catch -- easily spooked but I worked my way around having a few flicks in each spot and working some snags.

Has anyone got any tips on how to catch them without a fly.

Cheers.

I would be pretty happy with that catch.  Nice fish.  If you don't want to fly fish then put a small hard body lure on and troll the lake while paddling.  Just stuff the rod and reel between knees with rod under your armpit instead of 90 degrees to canoe - makes paddling easier.  Also nothing wrong with just a slow drift or paddle around with a weighted fly.

First up, nice work. Yeah go out to Big Brook, Warren River or Lefroy brook & use hardbodies, bladed spinners or soft plastics. If you insist on fishing at Karri Valley then use corn kernels as bait suspended under a stick as a float. On a side note I took my family to Karri Valley for a week in October 2016 & will never go back. I refused to fish on principle alone: I'm already a paying guest & then they want to charge extra me on top of that to fish for thier mushy stocked trout??? I don't bloody well think so. We also ate in the restaurant one night & honestly I wouldn't feed it to my worst enemies dog. Nasty food, whole family crook the next day. Dead set shit hole.

Yeah it's gone to shit as far as facilities and restaurant... pretty overpriced-- but that lake and surrounding forest are priceless.

Pay to fish now??
I have been going there for years and the pay to fish is new.
If fishing Lake Beedalup Im with Shimka. Corn kernels on a hook, either float but just on a light or unweighted hook is even better.
In the wild rivers around there then into artificials, but hard to get pass the Redfin

Yeah Cransy, pay to fish. From memory it was $10 for a 24hr "Activities Pass". Fair enough for day trippers but poor form when you're already paying to stay there. I don't find too many reddies in Lefroy but yeah the rest of the waters around there are chockas with em. Lucky they are often really good size & taste top notch battered & served with fried rice with sweet & sour.

I'll PM you in a few minutes Hook_er. Just some other spots down there you might like to try. They are spots that have produced trout for me several years in a row on our yearly Marron season run so hopefully they will help you out a bit.
