soft plastics at night
Submitted by Fish guts on Thu, 2013-08-22 09:26
i am going out for a twilight session tomorrow and was just wondering if soft plastics would be as effective at night time? has anyone had success at night on SP's?

night sp's
We've caught snapper at night on non-glowing sp's. I noticed the plastics were being hit almost immediately the cast hit the water. So the fish were obviously able to make out the silhouette of the lure against the sky. There'll be heaps of moonlight tomorrow, so I'd recommend fishing the top few metres with a black/very dark plastic. Let me know how you get on.

Try the squidgie wrigglers in
Try the squidgie wrigglers in glow, hit them with a camera flash or hold them against a light or torch for 10 seconds and they light up real well and have good action. As said above when pinkies are really on the chew you'll be surprised how close to the surface they feed. When we were in Shark Bay once the sun started setting the pinkies would be boofing the burley on the surface just at the back of the boat

I believe
and have used SPs at night without glow and still caught NW snapper etc. Fish dont just have to see a prey object, they also sense the vibrations through the lateral line. Most SPs have an action that causes vibrations. However my favourite plastic that I used in the Pilbarra didnt seem to work well at night. Snapbacks dont have much action and I mostly used Curly tails at night.

not related to snapper but we have caught salmon on poppers at night time once. I guess a SP would kinda be like a livey.

As crezz mentioned above soft
As crezz mentioned above soft plastics worked in the right manner are like live baits. Snapper cant smell a bait when its alive? they sense the vibrations they put off and same concept works with plastics. I have caught dhu's and snapper on soft plastics at night when we had no joy on the baits. Using glowing placcies do increase your chances also try the berkly 7 inch nuclear chicken, they give off an awesome sent and snapper cant resist them out of all the plastics i have to say i have had the best luck on them!
Good things come to those who bait
