Some recent photos

I thought I'd post a few recent photos. I'm still experimenting with my new Nikon DSLR and some lenses....and having a load of fun. Im interested in anything from macro to long lens wildlife and everything in between.
The sunrises I've captured on my way to Wagerup, while the birds are all photographed on our property. The blue wrens are in full colour now and look stunning...sneaking up on them is the challenge, though. Yesterday there were 2 males on the back lawn but they wouldn't stand still side by side to capture them both in focus...that's another challenge.
Hope you enjoy these.

Stunning photos............
They are great shots - for sheer brillance of colour the Blue Wren is just breath taking. Was he dancing around much - they tend to be pretty "show offy" when its mating season.

Camera
I bought a Nikon D5100 and lens kit, which included an 18 - 55mm and a 55 - 300mm lens. I've since added a Nikon 10 - 24mm wide angle lens, a Sigma 150 - 500mm lens and I've just bought a 2x converter. You lose a little bit of quality with the converter in place but it is a handy 'extra'.
The blue wrens were dancing around a bit but seemed more interested in feeding than playing up to the ladies. They hop around the lawn so fast it's hard to track and focus on them...they sit better in the bushes.
Their colours this time of the year are just stunning.

Use bait
Use some bait to get them to stay put for long enough to get a shot. Used to feed them and robins coconut and bird seed when living down near Yallingup and they soon became regular visitors

Bird feeder
We have a bird feeder on the verandah but the pink & greys dominate that one. The magpies and bronzewings hang around for the dropped seed but my 2 dogs make pretty short work of any seed on the ground.
The bird baths in summer are a popular place for the birds so that's another opportunity to get close to their 'water sports'.
I'll try a small feeder in the garden and see what shows up there, thanks Carnarvonite.

Yallingup
There is an old lady down Yallingup way that used to go the back door and prop it open first thing in the morning and let the wrens, red robins and silver eyes in for a feed of seed off the kichen table. She had got their trust over time and they waited for breakfast to be served each morning.
Aunty had kookaburras doing that in the afternoon down in Pemberton, what started off as one pair finished up being about 30 and them not shutting up until they got fed. Bad move!!!!
