Sounder advice

Would appreciate any tips on how best to set up a sounder to find the best spots to drop cray pots (sand near ledge) I have a navman 4350 and am finding that the bottom is just a mass of mixed colours and it doesn't really change that much even if I know I am over sand or over reef. All of the manuals show nice solid blocks of colour with the thicker ones being reef but this is not what I am seeing. I am using a white colour palette, very fast scrolling, a 30m range and I am using the zoom function. Maybe it's doing what it should be doing but I just can't understand it Many thanks

hey mate, i dont have to
hey mate, i dont have to much experience with navman sounders but i know on my furuno i dont use the zoom function, i use the bottom lock instead with half the screen being on the normal view, what depth have you got your pots in? when i go fishing i have my sounder all manually setup but when im in the shallows (up to 25m) i find it easier to run it in auto settings and it gives you more than enough detail as to where to set your pots, thats just me others will probably disagree but you need to find out what is easiest and what works for you, good luck mate and i hope you get it sorted out.

Give a man a mask, and he'll show you his true face...
The older you get the more you realize that no one has a f++king clue what they're doing.
Everyone's just winging it.

Manual
Set it manually and you'll get better results

given your going slow looking
given your going slow looking for the right spot maybe drop the scroll speed a little to around 1/2 to 3/4 at the most so the info stays on screen longer.
Set your depth range for the bottom 10m - if looking for ground in 25 metres set range to show 20-30m that way you'll be looking at a bigger picture of the bottom - works better than zoom.
set sensitivity manually to a point where you get too much clutter then back it off until the screen just clears.
Give that a try
