Sounder Photos

Just wondering, i have seen a few sounder shots in the latest image section and was wondering if there was anywhere in this site that shows them all together. like to look at all the brands and the pictures to see how they read.

Tue, 2010-07-20 13:51

Hey Damo, whats the side imaging like? Been thinking about getting one but still undecided. I do a fair bit of river fishing around broome/fitzroy and also offshore.

Can you understand them easily enough and are they worth getting?

Cheers

Marky.

I like the way that raymarine ID's the depth of the fish / structure - could be really useful.

Next time I go out I will take a few shots of the Raymarine C80. Its good to see what each sounder looks like and even better when the anglers know what was done there. Keep the shots coming in.

Eagle 640c Combo at a little

Sun, 2010-07-18 20:18

Eagle 640c Combo at a little spot just off Hedland. School of bait that we jigged a couple of Cobia off the edge.

Bait School somewhere off Darwin Furuno FCV600l. All balled up but nothing hitting jigs.

Garmin showing school of Trevs. Somewhere west of Darwin. (Probably best no colour sounder I have ever used.)

Sambos on Al Bevans Suzuki. We caught as many as we could.....

have not gone deep yet with the new tranny on, but here is what I see on my FCV 295 when in the sound ( shallow only) and at about 15knots

i'll see if I can dig up some pics from the Hummingbird sidecan I had 3 years back. Great for shallow water ( less than 25m) fishing and river work.

cheers

Lowrance elite 5 and a fcv620 running at the same time. Sending down a small halco twisty resulted in endless 300mm juvenile sambo/ytk?. Those larger fish at the ten metre mark turned out to be mammoth stinking north west blowies.

Some shots from a Raymarine

Mon, 2014-08-18 20:38

Some shots from a Raymarine CP450 with a M265LM (1kw) on medium CHIRP (100hz centre frequency)

" rel="nofollow">

" rel="nofollow">

" rel="nofollow">

" rel="nofollow">

This shot is with the R111LM (2kw) on medium CHIRP. This is a jigged sambo coming up (with his mates following I suspect).

" rel="nofollow">

I'll do proper screen shots next time...these were obviously taken with a camera.

I've used Lowrance HDS and Furuno 620 & 585 (1kw), but the level of detail on the CHIRP is fantastic.....this is on auto settings and not even using a high frequency.

I've only been out to 115m and the clarity is still great on medium frequency. But I'll get some proper screenshots. Costs an arm and a leg....the 2kw CHIRP tranny alone is $3k+.

I've got to get out to the super deep and see how it performs....last Saturday was the day but I went and collected two dhuies instead.

Will be interesting to see what it's like at 200+.

Be cool to bump this thread

Fri, 2019-04-12 23:59

Be cool to bump this thread back up and see peoples yarns of what bottoms what etc ect. Been fishing a whole heap of nothing lately and getting good fish. Running a tm260 with the gain around the 4 mark. This ones from a big area that goes from maybe weed into to this. Coral yeah?

There’s 6 solid marks within a mile that all look like these ones. There only maybe 40 meters square but they’re the only ground that the fish hang on. Some bits in between are small rises but never hold fish. They look more green too so maybe weed?

This is a limestone edge with coral or heavy kelp? 2m edge good red shows? Coral? Always blackass on these things. Have dropped the camera over on a few and its been surprising what the ground actually is. There’s been some sure fire marks that we’ve thrown the camera over and all it is a little sink hole with a heap of sand in it. What are peoples take on these? Be good to hear from divers who drop on the marks. Couple fish that have popped up last couple trips

 If metro area reef most

Thu, 2019-04-18 09:19

If metro area reef most likely to be soft corals mixed up by plate and sponge. Judging by the gaps in the red and flares on the bottom lock there’s a good indicator as soft ground. I good tip if your furuno is a 587 and above chuck the white edge line feature on that will show you the difference beftween plate and sand weed bottom. Sand weed bottom will show the white line on top of the lump with no flares on the bottom lock and plate will show up as red above the white line and on bottom lock.

And you get ACTUAL screenshots, not some crappy mobile phone pic upside down and covered in reflections   Some of those date from just last weekend.

here's a few sad stories

Tue, 2019-05-07 18:23

First one was a livie, just dropped, you can see it. And see the big shark go down, nail it, then go back up and swim off.

The next one i reckon was a big cod, judging by the state of the leader when I got it back.

Wed, 2019-05-08 12:27

over the last month, I'd been in the general area a couple of other times, and pulled trout, Dhu and baldies , as well as pinkies. But the sharks were nek level that day.

Release of a big Rankins

Thu, 2019-08-01 19:57

This bloke came up, well and truly blown up. rankins over about 6 or 7 kg don't eat well, IMO, just get a bit chewy. So our policy is always to release them. This one took the 14lb release weight o get it down, lowered to 60m, and you could see him apparently swim the rest  of the way to the bottom.
