Hi guys, just got my first boat (pics to come this weekend) It has a navman chartplotter 5600 already but no sounder. Hoping you guys can point me in the right direction. Do I get just a fish finder or a combo unit? I have budget of around a $1000. Is the Navman 5600 any good???

Navman is a great plotter,
Navman is a great plotter, nothing wrong with them though as a sounder not that flash.
Give a man a mask, and he'll show you his true face...
The older you get the more you realize that no one has a f++king clue what they're doing.
Everyone's just winging it.

I believe Navman (&
I believe Navman (& Northstar) have gone out of business. Their chart plotter was OK using CMAP, but not as good as Navionics Gold with contour lines. Their sounder was lousy IMHO. I had the 5500 range as well as the M84 which was top money back then.
Combo units are now not much more expensive than sounder standalone. So I would definately look at getting a combo. Lowrance seems very very popular, and the Raymarine Dragonfly looks good (although I know someone who would prefer to go back to a Lowrance).
I have also PM'd you with a couple offers of used Lowrance I may have
