southwind built great boats all came out with yammies as they were tied together the long boats are built proof and the half cabs seem to hold their own as well never herd a bad report or had too fix any nasties on them pitty they went bust moulds then went to southern cross they went bust to and this was nothing to do with the designs of the boats bad management i would give tham a thumbs up.
Just for factual sake Southwind never went broke. They actually were part of Yamaha and if you new that, then you would also now that Yamaha world wide decided they did not wish to be in the boat building market. So they shut the factory down. A managenmnt buy out of moulds and gear resulted (the UB's were not sold they were only leased from Yamaha) however in the infanete wisdom Southern star decided to distance them selves from Yamaha so they would not give a dealership to Yamaha dealers. Now Mercury allready build about 29 different boats so they were left with what ever was left. Suzuki are imported into this country by Haines Family group (signature/traveller) so they got lumbered with only johnson dealers.
Then yes Southern star did actually go broke and shut the doors.
Great boat. The 17 or 565 is actually one of my favourite all time boats...
Pen most likely. I am pretty apprehensive about going a pen, so that is why the not quite 100% thing. Of course my wife thinks it would be great to just drive down, jump on and go but she has no concept of the costs and maintenance differences (I have some idea but as always I am assuming double what I calculate the costs will be). Also the increased fuel costs may also put paid to all the quick trips I like to do.
Anywho, back on topic.......aren't southwinds great..............any guesses what yours would be worth now with the etec on it Ron?
There is also storage issues with big boats sitting out the front. We are currently selling the house too and will be in and out of rentals no doubt for the next 18 months whilst building a new house. I once saw a 24 or 25 foot Baron Outrider and it was the S*&T. I loved it, and at $50k with a 200hp Honda (from memory) it would suit me great, but again what suits me doesn't always suit the wife.
I have been tempted by a few boats, this is one for sishing and diving
with what we have done to it since we got it, if we couldnt get 40-45k i would not sell it.
we have just had the trailer redone as well and in the near future the red will be getting resprayed as well, getting a bit faded. luckally the old boy is a spray painter.
yes mate, great boat, exellent at rest, great in the rough shit, i have been out in some very shitty days and not once was i worried about the boat doing things it shouldnt.
have you had much interest in yours! i hear its a bit slow for sales atm
Had one seatrial that is not a dead enquiry, have to ask Rod otherwise. I think the $30-$40k market has always been slow moving. Patience is all that is required.
Would be happy to help if you like. I sold them for many years and was actually the largest Southwind dealer in the country. I even normally can now most indervidual boats in Perth.

very nice rig there ron
i was looking for one at one time , but they did all seem to have the old yammy saltwater 2 strokes.
If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

Southwinds are great. Just ask me, I am selling mine to upgrade. If your looking around you've probably seen the ad.
It is currently at my place, call if you want to have a look, or it should be back in the yard on Monday.
