SP's at Wagoe?

Gday,

Im heading to Kalbarri for our annual Wagoe Weekend next week... recent reports seem to say not much has been on the bite with baits from the reefs... ballooning will be on the cards if the easterlies show up but that only lasts a few hours or so if at all.

So i was thinking of taking a different approach this year and maybe working a few plastics off the reef.

Just like to know if anyone has ever given it a go before? and with much success?

I'll be spinning metals for mackeral and poppers/ stickbaits for tailor... the usual stuff but thought this maybe a viable option with the variety of fish that i've previously caught from there.

Any light in the matter would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Hey Scere

I dont have an answer for you in regard to soft plastics but a friend of mine was up there about a month ago when there was a fish kill from the warm water and he said all the abelone etc was dying and falling off the reef so this may be a reason why there isnt much happening in close at the moment or recently.

Just with regard to spinning metals/lures at wagoe as I havent been before but am planning to go in May.  Is it usually possible to spin lures there as I thought wagoe generally had big swells and this would mean that walking out on the reef wouldnt really be posible

thanks

I've been fairly lucky the past two trips i managed to jag perfect weather and no swell...

the last trip i even witnessed people sitting on camping chairs fishing the edge of the reef it was that calm.Same day i saw a mack jump 2m out of the water 50m in front of me so yeah if its calm enough its possible.

I've also been there when its blowing its tits off and the swell has made it unfishable so you take the good with the bad.

Valuable info mate thanks for letting me know it could also be the unclean water ive been told about also. Who knows? I heard reports there is still plenty of bird activity about 300m out theyre just not getting the easterlies they usually do to balloon out.

cheers

Rob

yeah spot on mate after the new year we drove up from lucky bay for a look.

you blokes got some balls sitting there tho. wouldnt catch me doing it.

to be honest i'm never excited for wagoe... ive learnt over the years to head there expecting the worst everytime... that way if its the very least slightly fishable youre pretty stoked with it.
