Starter rod/reel for young Fella

 Hi guys,

My young fella (10 years old) want to go out fishing on the boat with me, but only has a $10 cheapy 6ft rod and matching reel.

What would you guys suggest as a decent entry level rod reel combo for him to fish off the boat with at FFB out off Cockburn sound.

I don't want to break the bank or buy something too cheap that will destroy itself on the first hookup either - he is quite keen and normally sticks with something if he likes it.

Want to spend about $100 dollars or so - is there a medium quality entry level boat combo available at this price?

He can't work an overhead reel yet, and I dont want him to spend the whole day sorting out knots.

 Any Ideas?

We sell boat spinning combos (quality versions) from $69.95 ^

One E.G, we have a 5'6 6-10kg Shakespeare Power Plus medium boat rod. It has a solid tip for sensativity and a strong rod with maintaining a softish bend that can handle meduim & large fish. The reel has 7 stainless ball bearings so very smooth and brass main gear so strong. The reel also has a spare spool so you can put mono on one and braid on the other. That combo would be perfect, $115 normally but "cheaper" to FW members!

Many other combos, too many to list!

Suggestion!

Something like a 6ft powertip or solid glass tip rod may be a good idea. They can really take the knocks and bumps. As for the reel something with at least 1 ball bearing and a front drag is good for a start. Some 10lb monofilament line and your away. Most of the reputable brands(Shimano,Silstar,Penn) have an entry level range that would suit and will come with some sort of warranty. The KGs, tailor and small snapper wont stand a chance.
