Stradic FJ or Salina III
Submitted by flexn on Mon, 2014-03-24 12:32
Looking at buying a new all-rounder reel for soft plactics, jigging and pelagics. Looking at getting either a Stradic FJ 4000 or a Salina III 4000. Stradic has 10kg drag 10 year warranty and the salina has 14kg and lifetime warranty.
I was sold on the stradic but now having a look at the okuma I'm not sure. The salina looks better on paper.
Anyone want to share their opinion? Heaps of info on stradics not much on Salina

Okumas lifetime warranty is
Okumas lifetime warranty is very limited & frankly not worth the paper it's written on. Some people rate the Salina but personally I think Okuma gear is crap when compared to either Shimano or Diawa gear & I fuggin hate Diawa stuff. Out of those two I'd take the Stradic every day.

Having dealt with rapala/vmc
Having dealt with rapala/vmc on many occasions regarding warranty issues, I can say that is a load of crap.
But as for reel choice, I'd personally take the stradic.

I bought a Stradic 4000 last year for a GP kickaround outfit. I was only expecting a middle of the road type of reel.
Its turned out to be an excellant reel, and Im loving it. Great value for money. Im now looking at a few more!

Salina is good
I've got the Salina. It's knocked over big yft, 30kg GT's, heaps of wahoo etc and never missed a beat. I've used it trolling, jigging, popping, live baiting everything. Haven't used the Stradic so I can't compare but I've been impressed with the value for money I've gotten out of the Salina.

Went and had a look at the stradic and salina. Salina doesn't feel as nice. Going to go a stradic 5000 as it has a better handle.

Stradic
put the two together and feel the difference....it's noticeable.
don't think you can beat the Stradic FJ 5000 for value for money (less than $200)

Don't think I will go
Don't think I will go something more expensive, I will probably rarely use this combo anyway to be honest. Just have vouchers that need to be used and I can't think of anything else to get

Im struggling with a similar
Im struggling with a similar choice. Looking at stradic 4000, sustain 4000, daiwa blast, daiwa ballistic 3000, daiwa SOL II 300, penn spinfisher ssv 3500, my limit is $300 for the reel.. Will be going on a FWA 9ft spin and will be putting some good casting 20lb braid.

I ended up going a stradic
I ended up going a stradic 5000, I already have a sustain 5000. For some reason it's $10 cheaper than the 4000 and I like the handle better. I got 300m of 20lb sunline on it.
Happy with my choice

Again the stradic is the winner. I use a 5000FJ on that same rod & it's bloody brilliant for throwing lures or baitcasting mulies. The 4000 & 5000 Stradic are the same body it's just the 5000 has a bigger spool for more capacity.

Inclined to disagree with
Inclined to disagree with Shimka's comment a little regarding warranty. I have a Salina II 5000 Baitfeeder that spat a center pin. Took it into the local where I bought it and it was replaced with no probs. Having said that I also have a 2500FJ that is a treat to use. My two cents.... Go the shimano!

Hey buddy, I have a Stradic
Hey buddy, I have a Stradic 8000fj and personally I will never buy one again (probably will someday haha) once they get wet/go under you can chuck them out. I recently brought a Daiwa saltist and I love it very strong and reliable :) I also like the Okuma. In my opinion check out the saltist
