Surf reel advice

I'm looking at getting myself a new surf reel and was thinking about a Saltiga surf 6000, but the other day I saw a couple of youtube vids on the new Ultegra ci4 14000 xtb and they looked quite good and are at least a couple of hundred cheaper.

Does anyone own or has anyone used one of these? Any info or advice would be appreciated.

Mine isn't the ci4 - it is the Shimano Ultegra XTC 14000.

Good line capacity, Smooth Drag and pretty light for its size - not sure what the ci4 model would bring to the party. It is a pretty big reel.

It also came with a spare spool in 10000 size.

I use it for ballooning, slide baiting and bigger baits.

I got it to replace my Penn 950ssm which decided to break in half when I speared the rod into the sand (no wonder those reels are cheap). The Ultegra is MUCH lighter and easy to use.

I wouldn't want to be blasting out lures with it all day, but for a set bait reel it is perfect.

Thanks whipping toy. How do

Thanks whipping toy. How do you find it casts? I've heard the slow speed oscillation makes a difference with the tight line lay.

I have it spooled with 30lb Tuffline and about 75m or so of 30lb platypus low stretch mono as a leader.

I used to have it all braid, but needed to add the mono for sliding. Casting straight braid from the reel was a joy.

It disperses the line very evenly over reel, there are spare washers in case but it was perfect out of the box.

Under heavy load the line does bite in somewhat, but the only time I notice this is when trying to get a balloon out; I occasionally need to pull it free (light wind only), but I haven't had a reel yet this doesn't happen to.

I am happy with this reel, it suits what I do and does it well.

Thanks for the info mate. Very helpful. About how much 30lb tuffline did you manage to fit on the spool?

I didn't measure it on, the line came from the Penn it replaced, and it took nearly all of it.

The Shimano specs quote 600m of 30lb powerpro, so it should be near that.

I don't feel short of line with a balloon out a few hundred metres.

You can skull drag most things up with this reel, I've pulled a few really fresh rays onto the beach! (note to self, back the drag off...)

I have it paired with a Pfleuger Crank Big Bait - it balances nicely and has handled anything I've caught on it with ease.
