Surf Shark Fishing
Submitted by Torzar on Mon, 2012-07-09 11:55
Hi Guys, looking at maybe getting some gear for shark fishing in the surf. I've been concidering a Shimano TLD 50 due to its relatively low price, and as a rod a Daiwa Sensor Surf Overhead. I would probably be livebaiting most of the time, but sometimes prefer casting dead baits and also probably use the combo for ballooning at some stage aswell. Just wandering if anyone else has any experience or ideas in this area.
Cheers

Have a look at the toriums
Have a look at the toriums either a 30 or 50 is what you after at that price range. That sensor will be fine for harks as they are very stiff and strong. Also have a look at slide baiting much easier in the surf for getting big baits out far.

I use the torium 50 which is single speed and have landed plenty of 80kg+ sharks and rays, getting a decent low mount rod that is comfortable for 2 hour + fights is the main thing.

Just remember that the
Just remember that the torium 50 is a pain in the arse to cast and is heavy so I only use mine for shark fishing or ballooning only, I use a Trinidad 30A for general beach fishing and it's still capable of stopping 3m sharks with patience and generally a much better option as a multi purpose reel.
