Suzuki 4 Stroke Outboard Motors
Submitted by Jerro on Sat, 2012-10-20 18:46
G'day Lads,
Just a quick one, does anyone out there have one of the latest Suzuki 150-175 4 stroke outboards motors? I'm looking to buy a boat fitted with a 150. I have always been a Yamaha man and rate them highly. Can anyone out there vouch for the Suzuki? Any pro's-cons that I Should consider? Any advice appreciated!

Don't think you'll go wrong
Don't think you'll go wrong with the suzi , they've got a very good rep , I couldn't find a negative review at the time I brought one , mines a 2006 DF140 no cons ...all good ... it's quiet , economical and reliable...ideally if the one your looking at has a good service record ...I personally wouldn't hesitate ( plus my servicing is bloody cheap compared to my mates yammy 150 different mechs though )

to the dark side
The suzi now isn't what it use to be_ as long as the servicing is regular and done properly and she doesn't have the ethanol additive (some US 4strokes_ all brAnds) you will be fine_ they are a very nice motor

I bought a df115 2 years ago, and love it. They have a very good rep. Right up there with yammys. Awesome on fuel.

DF 115
2011 and cant fault it or Suzuki as all mates I know that have them have no issues.
one mate has +2500 hours and no issues.
Plenty of people comment on how quiet it is :)
have a 5.1 side console and its a big boat for its size and I did a trip a few weeks back;
No matter what I do or how I drive it averages 2km / litre.
I should have gone the DF140...........
They dont like water in the fuel but to compensate they have a fail safe shut down mode that limits revs to 3000rpm.
flush the fuel filter and away she goes :)
Would not hestitate in getting another Suzuki

Very quiet engines.
I drive on my trailer with DF200. Missus hooks up the chain and off we go to the boat wash (Dampier Bioat Club). Missus gives me the hose and I start washing down the boat. "Whats that noise?" Bloody forgot to turn the engine off it is so quiet.

830 hrs on a DF300 without a single problem . Know a few guys with 150`s and 175`s and they love em too.
Outdoinit, wouldnt mind talking to you when you`ve done a few hours on yours about your fuel consumption. We are deciding whether to trade ours for a new one or run it till it dies, the advertised 15% better yours is over ours is the only real reason we thinking of changing.

Comparison
We have twin 300 Yammies on our 10 metre Naiad and the Denham boy have twin 300 Suzies on their 10 metre Air Rider yet at 26 knots they use 50 litres an hour more fuel with the boats running side by side . At 5500 revs the Yammies are using approx 220 litres against almost 300, a huge difference.
Once you crank them up the Suzies are bloody noisey compared to the Yammies yet low down its the other way round.

6000 revs we burn 98 litres
6000 revs we burn 98 litres an hour and get 42/43 knots . I`d say its a fair bit to do with the airrider and not the suzukis ?? Same with the noise, ali boats can get a throb up with twins specially . I1ve got a very good mate with the same hull built by the same builder with a verado, his fuel use is horrendous compared to ours.

Got a DF150 on the back of a 20ft F-glass Chivers and am stoked with it.
Quieter at 3500-4000rpm cruise than our old DF115 (which was still a great engine) and still very economical.
At just under 3.0L capacity they produce Plenty of torque and with the gear reduction you can spin up to a 16" prop.
Made the world of difference to my boat.
