Tahiti Fishing report

In one word --- FCUKed.

But a magnificent spot to visit and the seafood was sensational. For those that love Raw fish, marinated in lemon or lime juice you just have to try:

Poisson Cru

Ingredients (for six people)

  • 500 grams fresh tuna
  • 2 tomatoes
  • 2 green limes
  • 1 onion
  • coconut cream
  • parsley
  • green onions or chives
  • salt, pepper

Cut the fish into small cubes and soak in salted water for 5 minutes
In a salad bowl, mix the sliced tomatoes, the finely sliced onion, the snipped green onion and the chopped parsley

Add the lime juice, salt and pepper, and let it soak for a few minutes. Fold in the drained fish cubes.

Mix all the ingredients together well.
Just before serving, add the coconut milk (once the coconut cream has been added, do not put the poisson cru into the refrigerator).

Man I must have eaten it almost every meal. Devine!!!

Cheers

I forgot to mention above you can do it with any fish that you can use for Sashimi.

Funnily enough, the yellowfin

Funnily enough, the yellowfin was pulled out of the freezer last night for a big feed today and that recipe looks like it will def get a run. Bit of a bummer about the fishing Neels but sounds like you had a good break none the less.

Apart from the fishing awesome break. But when fishing is in your blood, you are overwater seeing all sorts of fish, it WAS bloody frustrating. Snorkling was fantastic but I didnt get a scuba in. Pricy and Jill doesnt plus the people diving mostly spoke "parle vouz Francais!!!!"

Merci

No lagoon fishing,

Sat, 2011-06-25 12:17

no poppering, no lures, no charters apart from $$$$$ ones for deep sea and then and only then if you are lucky you might get a sail, marlin or tuna. Plenty of Dollies (mahi mahi there is the prefered name) but no way to get to them unless you get to know a local with a boat. Just no charters or guides that we could find.

Seen some locals in outriggers "poppering" in some weird way, but NEVER saw anything caught and we were on overwater bungalows.

Went to a tackle store and you would not believe it. 1 rod for sale, no reels????, I didnt see any hooks or swivels/sinkers etc, but a lot a weird pushers and resin heads. I took 2 boxes with "lagoon style" poppers and lures like roostas, tango dancers etc and nothing they had even looked similar.

Water crystal and lots of blue trevors clearly seen aswell as some stomper size tropical snapper looking fish. One type like a long nose emp and the other that we saw heaps off was like a spanglie on steroids.

Was a bit dumb, thinking we could buy some cheapy rods and reels there, but the ones we saw in the supermarket make KMart specials look like stellas, and then the fishing in anything that even closely reminds anyone of tourism are reserves.

And plenty more fishing disappointed reasons, but it is stunning.

If anyone is interested I will post up some "holi snaps" including the underwater swim with dolphin shots, which was awesome.
