nope, 40lb is on the border line, although you will get some people saying the only use 20lb, BUT if you are using ganged hooks will maybe do the job.

20lb fluro leader to a lure, Stickbait/popper/metal

IMO, 20lb, is enough, but as Diehard said, lots of people like to go heavier to ensure you don't get bitten off incase it swallows the whole lure or gang.

cheers,

tom

10 kg is fine

Depending on where you are going. Metro Tailor will not generally take a whole bait and bite you off. They are not big enough!

I do a lot of fishing off ground where there is reef so heavier traces etc are essential. It's not the fish that will break you, it's the cover they use to break away from you. I am still of the opinion that th lighter the tackle the better results you will have and that also depends on how you feel about the odd smoked situation LOL

Hi fishing 2 i usually use 20-30lb

with the tailor rigs you can buy (with the treble on the end)

depending on the weather i sometimes use a small running bean but normally with out it pays off.

im not a fan of using trebles. too much injury to the fish etc etc. most tailor i get are big enough to take a 4/0 anyway.

I use 20lb leader onto a lure and agreee with leemo, there are some big fish if you know where to look, have cought a couple 60cm+, lost a couple around 70cms and saw a monster 80cms+ hit the lure just a couple of meters from me, definately gave us a fright when we saw it!

Also another thing with tailor rig, use a running spoon sinker on a swivel clip, tailor like a moving target and you will catch more fish

With tailor rigs - in general

Sun, 2011-05-22 09:53

With tailor rigs - in general - do you guys allow your bait to sit on the sea bottom / or use a floaty to lift it up a couple of inches from the bottom.

(agree on the ganghooks and treble - had my tailor almost ripped apart - no good)

 Nick Hocking says trebbles

Sun, 2011-05-22 13:32

Nick Hocking says trebbles on the gang hooks are stupid, because you don't hook any more and apparently all you do is injure the juviniles,

but i've never used a treble so i wouldn't know. I have seen people use a cork at the top of their gang to keep it out of reach of the crabs,

but on the flip side the cork might spook bycatch, such as mulloway, which are alot more common on your Tailor grounds than most people think.

Agree on the treble issue -

Sun, 2011-05-22 15:08

Agree on the treble issue - have not seen anything like this or for that matter a gang of hooks, so had to try it out. Normal rig for me would be a single size 5 / 4 hook on a 90lb leader of 15cm. For extreme measure, a second hook snelled 2cm from the first. Cheers
