hey guys im going to thailand (bangkok and phuket) in september and was wondering if its worth saving some extra money to buy some fishing gear (reels lures and squid jigs mainly) or do they just sell junk. Will i find known brand name gear or am i better to buy other additions for the holiday. its my first time out of australia and dont know what to expect gear wise haha
cheers scott

Try 7sea pro shop in Bangkok.
Try 7sea pro shop in Bangkok. They carry wide range of branded stuff and you can fish from the shop, how good is that !! Because the shop is right next to the fresh water fishing pond!!

Fishing-go in Rangsit just
Fishing-go in Rangsit just out of Bangkok is definatley the go for tackle. Avet reals for $100 , also bought pe2 pe3 pe5/6 H20 Monster jig sticks for around the $100 mark. They also pack your gear to take on plane. Fisherman jigs for about $20. There are 2 tackle shops here side by side but fishing-go is the best value. Also picked up 2 saltiga jig sticks for mates for around $120 each and are no differant than te same models I have at home.
I actually fish.

I seem to recall some saltiga
I seem to recall some saltiga rods having 'Made in Thailand' on them, and have also seen them a bit cheaper from overseas than here, so for $120, it might add some weight to it being fully genuine rather than a well done copy.
