Thevenard

Just wondering if anyone has been to thevenard since things changed a little, with the chevron miners using the majority of the cabins? I know you can still get one of the bigger cabins. Is Drew still working there? Great bloke!!
Is the games room and shop still open to the fishos? We were going every year, untill they stopped hireing out the smaller cabins as there are only the two of us. If all goes well, we may get a few more blokes together and hire out a cabin and share the cost, as they are $575 a night now.
Any feedback would be awsome. Cheers Fab

Two cabins
I was told by some people who were up there two weeks ago that there are still 2 cabins only left to rent out and the base runs on a smaller scale than it did before , you just need to know who to call and spaces are limited as they don't advertise the location any more

Open
We are heading there in July. 2 cabins are available and the shop is still open, but apparently not as much stock held as there used to be. The Bar/Restaurant is not available to fisherman- just Chevron workers. Fuel supply is the same deal.

Thanks guys
Thanks heaps for all your info guys. Probably just a matter of time untill we lose the last 2 cabins as well. Looks like its buisness over pleasure. What a shame!!

Shire
The owners of the island wanted fully leased to Chevron, however the Ashburton Shire were going to revoke the tourism permit encompassing the island unless part of it remained open to tourists.
Apparently money made whilst Gorgon project is being constructed is going to fund future upgrades to the resort ie a jetty.

Hey Fab. Unfortunately Drew
Hey Fab. Unfortunately Drew and Tracy have moved on. Still a great spot just not the same as when I met you guys up there.
Good to hear 'Team Euro' still at it.

Hi Fab Was there is September
Hi Fab
Was there is September taking up one of the 2 cabins. The other cabins were booked out to a Belgian Dredging mob, but there were few of them on the island, with no impact to us at all - if anything you'd have thought there was no one there.
As for the Shop - we'd put in orders and goods would get delivered to our cabin. Half the shop is now an office.
The fishing is as good as ever...
I believe that Chevron are going to decommission the plant on the island, so I presume that cabins may be in jeopardy again with rooms being required for the demolition crew...
As for Drew and Tracey - Drew was CEO of the group that owns after Thevenard and the hotel in Onslow (as of Septemebr at least). Was still involved but not based fulltime on the island.
Cheers
