Thoughts - Crack in boat deck after jumping in
Evening folks
Bit of an urgent one tonight.
A few weeks ago while dancing around my c/c seeker boat, I jumped from the front of my boat down to my deck and heard a crack. The floor softened up in that area after which I blamed on the deck of the boat cracking.
Just pulled the carpert up to find the damage which is slightly worse than expected. There's about a 400mm long crack in the floor where I've landed which joins to the side of the hull. I've done the old fist bang on the sides of the boat and apart from the affected area, all is solid.
Trouble is I have a Leeman trip booked in this weekend.....
I've been out since the incident and there hasnt been a change in any of the boat handling but I'd like some more opinions about what damage I've done.
Do you think it'll be ok for the weekend or am I best to get this sorted asap?
Thanks

I just have! The boat rocked as I landed so I ended up on my heels instead of my toes.

Yeah dont JUMP in the boat!!!
And i reckon you'll be fine. But i would get a fibreglass kit and lay a couple sheets over it for the trip, just adds that strength. Would take about 2-3hrs if you have the time.

Simple
don't wear heels in the boat
get a flap disc and remove paint / glue
wipedown with acetone , repair with a couple layers of glass /resin
go on trip , catch fish , drink beer , eat sleep repeat
plenty of YouTube clips to show how
would investigate further after your trip
Happy itching

yep
Lesson learnt to say the least! The old man has some sheets in the garage so I'll give it a patch before leaving tomorrow.
Then have it looked at properly when I get back - it's an old hull so I might have the whole floor taken up and inspected for some piece of mind.

He's an artist my brother - don't ask him to read a book but he prepped, acetone washed and put down 3 sheets of fabric and half a tin of resin for me this morning. Thanks again to all for the advice, my new diet starts next week.

That a big crack for a jump
And if you look at the edges I think its old, and not caused by your High BMI jump (Lost emoticons so cant but a tongue in cheek up)IMO.
If it is an old hull I would (after the trip) lift all the boards and have a good look.
It is certainly not a new crack looking at the colour in the edges of the crack. No need for a diet!!!

GT fibreglass
I'm taking it to GT fibreglass this week and getting it all sorted. Looking at potentially taking the whole floor up for a full hull inspection and then new deck, foam underneath and full seal. Won't be cheap but the peace of mind it will give me I think is worth it.
Cransy: would you think this was caused by a bad stringer then?
Nothing special to report unfortunately Jackfrost - went out Saturday and the wind was so strong we could barely hold bottom with baits (let alone jigs), managed a few of everything still but would've put back half a dozen fish which were on the nose for size (didn't want to risk it). Still kept a big break-sea and a nice baldy. Repair held up well but that night we discovered a hole in the hull (still not sure exactly how that happened) so I pulled the pin on Sunday and we went home. One of the toughest things I've ever done is that coastal drive with those conditions on sunday. Absolute mare of a trip :(

Gutted for ya. I took the old
Gutted for ya. I took the old man down at 10:30 to OR and there was literally nowhere to park the trailer and couldn't get change to launch at Hillarys so I feel ya pain.

It happens
Ahhhh it happens sometimes doesn't it - at least we found it before we went out rather than being in water 20nm waiting for sea rescue to come and get us.
Worked the 30-40m line West and that's where we got the fish - heaps on the sound but the drift made hitting the marks quite hard. Goodluck!

No I dont think so
Probably just aging as you do see cracks like this sometimes with older hulls. BUT I am certainly no expert, but have built a couple of glass boats years ago and we certainly strengthened stringer and corner areas with extra webbed glass and devinicell (? spelling as this was years ago - basically the stuff used to strengthen Jumbo jet wings.
Just glass it over but make sure that the area you glass is much bigger than just covering the crack or you will see it again sometime.
PS: I cant figure out exactly where this is. Have you got a wider shot? Also what hull/age?

No wider shot unfortunately
But it's at the front left side of the boat just before the front storage hatch (center console). The hull is a '76.
Hopefully tonight I'll have a couple more indications of the actual problem.

Photo's
I might put some photo's up for an fyi and to show what's happened and what's being done about it.
At this stage, I was told a rough cost for a full floor replacement with foam under the deck is about 4-5k. But I'll find out more tomorrow arvo. The foam will apparently make it just about unsinkable and the new floor will seal the hull - I like that a lot.
