The three T's. trout, tuna and trevs off dampier (with video)

Due to the weather and the missus in the middle of uni exams I haven’t been able to get out as much I would have liked, as a result, this caused me to start spending. So sitting at home looking at my two new reels, new rod (with another on the way, cheers matt) and various untested sp patterns, I decided it was time to give it all a workout. I didn’t have to ask my good mate Robbo twice as he will use any excuse to get the fly rod out.

We hit the water before sun up to hopefully get a few fish before the wind kicked in.   The first spot we hit up was a nice shallow reef area which was a perfect spot to try out my new sp reel, a daiwa excela 3000.  Between that and Robbos 10 weight fly rod we managed to nail 6 trout and I was blown away but a huge seventh, in just over an hour. All the trout were small, between 30 and 50cm but they were great fun on the light tackle.

We then began to head wide for a jig, stopping along the way to chase some tuna schools. At first the tuna were skittish and when john did manage to put us right amongst it, we both launched out a cast at the same time and a sea gull swooped in and collected both our lines. Robbo finally connected to one but after a 10 minute fight it was sharked

By the time we reached our lump the wind had picked up and drifting became hard, I did manage to connect to a nice little golden that gave my new stradic/monster mesh combo a good workout. I was very impressed with how it handled. But the wind was getting worse and we had scratched our itch so we called it a day.

Nice fish Webby, looks like

Nice fish Webby, looks like you got a work out with that golden on the video!

What size stradic and monster mesh is that? Love my stradics, waiting on a 4000 and 8000 (to go with the 2500 and 6000) I have on their way for my bday. 4000 is goin on the Xzoga PE3 stick I got a few days ago, cant wait to try it out!

Also have a Monster mesh PE 6-8 that I love too, great rod! Got a Saragosa 18000 on it. Am yet to fully load it up on a fish though, hopefully on some sambos this season!

I am with you and Goodz on this one

Wed, 2010-06-30 11:48

Gave a Monster mesh Pe 3-6 with a Saragosa 14000 to the boss and I almost hate her for it. Looks awesome in action and I have not heard a sound from her complaining about the rig.

I settled with a TCurve Lacunas jig rod with a saragosa 8000 and realy shouldnt complain, but I am not sure how a meter cod would go on that, whereas the Monster will slay it.

What about the Fishwrecked mates from up here. Editing the background to avoid us pinging your point.

There is so much ground out there.

if there is so much ground

Wed, 2010-06-30 18:49

if there is so much ground then it shouldn't stress you neels, but its not so much the FW crew because i know you guys fish for the future and share info. its the 500 odd people that are on here as guests that are trying to get information without offering any in return. also I used to know a secret hole off dampier when i was a kid, word got out, now all you can catch there are sharks. sorry mate, im going to save some spots for my kids.

Pulling the pud

Thu, 2010-07-01 16:14

I think for sure that word spreads like wild fire if it is a new good area.

I found such a spot and it is full of little troat, that wont take bait at all. They only take SP and the odd lure that I have trown. Havent used a popper but when the weather is kind will certainly try that.

Poor Gillian only get flag, CharlieCs and emperor with her baits so I am laughing. Only proplemo is the size, about 1 in 4 are size.

Cheers mate and good fishing.

Have been in Perth (Mandurah) for 2 weeks

Fri, 2010-07-02 10:59

My daughter got herself engaged.

Have been out a few times lately. Twice last weekend. Got a few NW snapper, trout and a Rankin in only 10m of water, which took me by surprise. Had to stay in the lea of islands both times due to the wrong wind forecast. Coming back at 8pm it was as flat as a pancake on Saturday night.

Would have stayed longer but it got bloody cold out there.

Hopefully this weekend can venture a little further out. And if I can be bothered to stop fishing take some pics and post them, which I never seem to do.

Keep you posted.

Neels

You dont seem to get out as much nowadays. Have you sold the boat.

Glenns relocated to Perth

Fri, 2010-07-02 13:40

Glenns relocated to Perth and Brads up in Hedland so I'm a bit screwed without my own tub.

Good luck, the forecast this weekend looks horrible (20-30 kt E).

Cheers Jay

It was great on Saturday arvo. Went out near Enderby and got a feed off Emperors no problem. Also "accidently" hooked a Mackie on the not for mackie drifted mulie. This was on the Barra outfit with a A Ian Miller inpoundment Barra Stick and a Curado E reel. Now that was fun, but I had to apply thumb drag and the braid burn proves this is only when your getting spooled stuff.

Realy calmed down by 5ish and was flat when we came in at 7.30.

Cheers
