tinny sounder/ battery setup

Hi Guys.
I'm setting up my tinny with a 5 inch sounder/gps combo.
As the outboard doesn't run an alternator and I have no other electrics on board,
I'm wondering how I connect the combo to a rechargeable battery.
Does the battery need to be earthed, if so what do I earth it to?
Should I run a switch/(panel?) or will just a fuse do?
Any tips would be highly appreciated.

I have done it myself,
and my way was a deep cycle battery from battery world at the time. I have seen the same in masters reasonably priced. I think it was 12ah? Had a lowrance 5" combo
running off it and nav lights. I did not earth the battery itself, maybe I should of? Ran the sounder straight from the battery with inline fuse, switches for nav lights.
Hope this helps

Combo's red wire to pos
Combo's red wire to pos terminal, black wire to neg terminal, fuse in red wire(unit's red wire normally already has one) and you're in business. Don't worry about earthing.

Thanks heaps guys, sounds pretty much like what I'm planning to do. I was thinking 18 amp/hr but by the sound of it that is probably bigger then I need. What sort of running time do you get out of your 9.8 Vinesh?

ive got this set up
Mate all ive got is a motor bike battery, fuse on the positive side and way you go. It lasts about 4days running sounder only. The first time i had the battery just on the deck with no protection covering it and the salt ate the poles away as i didnt protect them my silly fault. So i put the next one in a lunch box container with lid drilled a hole in for the wires and its been all good for few years now. Also will fit inside one of those bait boards that hook on the side of the dingy.

Yup definitely in a plastic box
As it also protects against a dead short to the hull should it ever get overturned and in a tinny that is always possible - some brilliant alternatives battery wise from battery world which will easily run the equipment all day or even two or three days at a pinch before recharging
