Toyota Prado damage caused by short mudflaps
In May I purchaes a secondhand 150 series Prado. In june I went on a trip up north to the Pilbara. On return and on cleaning th car found damage to the rear bumper and front doors. Found out the original mudflap were too short and damage is stone damage from gravel tracks.
Went back to Toyota who advised they would replace mudflap but only repair rear damage. I advised they had to repair all the damage as it was not there when purchased. Car was still under new car warranty and that other had the damage repaired.
They have now come back and advised they will not repair damage or replace mudflaps.
Also found out the Toyota have been aware of this probelms for many years and in fact from 2011 new cars had the longer mudflaps them. Found info on website pradopoint. They would only do something if customer complained.
Has anyone else had this problem. Trying to show Toyota they have set a precedent by fixing other cars.
Also if you have a Prado might want to check mudflaps before you go offroad.

I am sorry but i dont know
I am sorry but i dont know why Toyota would fix the car. Ultimately, it is not a mechanical problem, or a structural problem. The car got used and was damaged whilst being used out of no fault of Toyotas.
But in saying that, if they said they would fix it or any part of it, and you have it written, then they should do so.

I don't know how you can go
I don't know how you can go about it when you are the second owner, but it is under new car warranty so it should still be covered. As a minimum the mudflaps will need to changed out by Toyota as the shorter mudflaps are a safety hazard to other road users.ie flying rocks.
I suggest you contact consumer affairs if you have no success.

There is a standard for
There is a standard for trailers, an angle from tyre bottom to minimum mudflap, and I imagine same for a car specified in ADR's.
20 degrees for a trailer.
If it doesn't conform they ought to fix it as it shouldn't have passed as is.
If it does pass then you probably have little chance.

wish i had shorter
lost a mud flap when I tackled the burrup jump up in the prado I used to have. If it had been shorter I might have got away without ripping it off. it was a strange feeling coming down with the ABS doing all the braking

mud flaps have to be level with axle
been over the pits a few times and its one they always pick so if yours are to short ie above the center of the axle then the vehicle is un road worthy and should be fixed under warranty ,if they are at axle height then tuff luck dont drive in gravel if you dont want stone chips or upgrade your mud flaps
