Trailer Bearings and Lights
Submitted by Bruce on Sat, 2014-10-11 16:41
Hey Fellas,
Need to get the trailer lights redone on the trailer and also the bearings checked before a few family holidays coming up, (I know the lights are probably an easy job am fairly pressed for time with exams starting next week)
Could anyone recommend places SOR that would generally look over the whole trailer and fix the lights/ do the bearings? Have learnt my lesson with getting the bearings done after blowing them severly early this year!
Cheers

I've had work done on my last
I've had work done on my last boat trailer at south west trailers in mandurah did a pretty good job... But personally when it comes to things you can do yourself I generally do it myself, I believe in if you want something done right do it yourself! I rewired my existing boat trailer in hour and half (having everything there to do the job) 6m trailer... Just tied some stringline to the old cable and pull the old one out, tape new cable to string line and pull through. I soldered all my connections to the lights then covered them in sikaflex with heat shrink over the top.. I think with cable and new slimline led lights it come to $140 ish... But in saying that I know what it's like to be strapped for time..
as as for bearings that took about an hour and that's with punching out the old bearing cases with a punch..

bearings
Cant help with a place to have them done but the trailer bearings are very straight forward to do and worth learning to do yourself. Particularly if one fails on the road and you have a spare. It is one of those jobs that should be done every year so you will save a significant amount once you learn. The lights are pretty much the same. You just need to take your time and learn to trust your own work.

Fremantle trailers in
Fremantle trailers in o'connor just finished a complete overhaul of my trailer. Their work is top notch and the price was reasonable (but not cheap). I would happily use them again as I am happy to pay a little more for top quality work.

Cheers fellas,I had a look
Cheers fellas,
I had a look on youtube for redoing the bearings might have to get the puncher to give it a try. With the lights, apparently i don't have power at all down the left side of the trailer so might have to start by putting in a complete set of new cables and LED lights.
Thanks fuzzy I might get a quote from them anyway and see whether its worth doing it myself or not!
Cheers

Update
Took it in to Paul at Fremantle Trailers on monday and picked it up today.
Really thorough inspection and re-did the bearings and re-wired the lights. He showed me the old bearings and despite being done only 10 months ago they were gone! He even did the little stuff like pannel-beat my number plate that was hanging by cable ties and installed a new jockey wheel handle!
Would recommend him to anyone, good service and a good bloke!

Glad he sorted you out
Glad he sorted you out Bruce. I have taken my trailer back to him a couple of times since it was all redone (with minor queries) and he is always happy to provide advice and do small repairs on the spot. Top service from him really
