Trailer brake lines

just out of curiousity, is there anyone on here who is in the brake industry who is able to make (or give me some info) on getting brake lines made up from a more corrosion resistant material than steel bundy lines?
I know you can buy SS braided but they are a bit blunt on the price.

Kodiak make a set that is available in the US for $100US but here $250-havent found a US seller with reasonable postage yet (many dont do international)

I've seen some people who have used copper lines that they use for grease lines to motors etc.

Picked up a set on braided brake lines from ebay for my last trailer that come at pre made sizes with all the good fittings for about $160 delivered.

If you want more info I can track them down. Easy to deal with and they have a number you can call them on. They are in QLD

Bouttime and Taffy, interested in more info on what you have used.
I know copper is a controversial one but I believe certain copper nickel alloys are legal.

I made up all my last set from steel with double flares but even getting non steel flare nuts isnt easy it seems.

Copper though isnt completely illegal perse, from NSW regs

Rigid brake lines must not be welded, brazed or soldered but must be double flared in accordance with SAE J5336 or its equivalent.

Copper brake lines must not be used but coppernickel alloy or “Cunifer” tubing is acceptable.

 Like Rob says, you shouldn't

Sun, 2015-08-16 07:53

Like Rob says, you shouldn't just make blanket statements without all the facts.

When I was putting my trailer over the pits, there was some corosion on the steel lines and I had to get new ones made. Discussed with the brake guy and he recommended 'copper'. I suggested copper was illegal and he advised it was an 'approved type' so I got that. Went back over the pits and it was paed no problem.

Pretty sure if it didn't meet the requirements the pits guy would have mentioned it since it was something he had to specifically re-inspect.

Whatever the guy put on that

Mon, 2015-08-17 10:31

Whatever the guy put on that was what passed the pits. I didn't ask for the particulars of the makeup of the metal. For a layman like me he probably said 'copper' so I knew it wasn't steel. Like mentioned above though, the connector is not corrosion proof so it is a bit of a pain to keep in good nick.

And to be clear, this is for the rigid line between the master cylinder and the axle. There are flexible lines from there to the calipers.

Sat, 2015-08-15 17:20

Our cruisecraft 685 had steel lines sleeved in plastic they didn't even last the warranty period before the rusted out and burst. Cruisecraft were pretty good they paid for the parts as the boat was stuck in Cervantes and couldn't be taken to a dealer. We ended up doing ours in copper all the stuff came from martins in Bayswater at the time they recon it was all legal but the nipples are still steel so it's still the weakest link. Haven't had any problems science,  that's about 5-6 years now.

Plastic does sound good though no one even suggested it when we had to do ours

I've used the hydraline kit on my cruisecraft too, fitted in 2 hours myself no worries and quick on postage as well. Price was pretty good too from memory.
