Two Rocks - any advice?
Went for my first trip out of two rocks on Saturday.
Had big hopes after reading the 'Wouldnt' dhu believe it' post up on here, but unfortunately didnt come good.
Went straight out from the ramp towards a point on the chart (pretty much due west of ramp) where it showed water going from 35 down to 30m (about 9-10mile out i think). Did a few drifts and some trolling on the way out there, but no luck.
First drift, got an undersize pinkie, second drift hooked something good that I called for a dhu, but lost it after about a minute of fighting. Third drift, undersize dhu to the boat. Then things went quiet.
Slugged it out in the rain for hours, got one sergeant baker, one silver bream, some wrasse and thats it. Also tried anchoring on that same lump and burleying with no success.
Have always done much better on the 5, but I know there are fish off two rocks, so has anyone got any pointers?
Seems from that trip that there is a lot less lumps around than on the 5. Is that just how it is off two rocks? Or am I looking in the wrong spots or need to go further out or north/south?
Didnt see any decent looking reef the whole day aside from the stuff a couple hundred metres out of the ramp!
Cheers
Dan
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Im heading that way next saturday, But will head out 18-20 mile i rekon.
Not fished too much up that way, but always done well out on the bank. We will be targetting baldies primarily, but a nice dhu or 2 wouldnt go astray either!

When you have gone out that way, you finding some decent sized lumps?
Or more just flatish rock?

the thing that seems to ring
the thing that seems to ring true to me is , if ground stands out on the charts , it's prob been hit hard.
most of the successful guys on here have done many hours out there , sounding around. it takes a while to get all your good spots
If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

You are in the right sort of
You are in the right sort of areas. There are not too many lumps out there to speak of and if there are any on the charts, they are probably all fished out. We only have a cheap sounder on my Dad's boat so maybe that's why we can't find too many lumps out there?
We have had success in 32m+ ground by just drifting. Like any new spots, if you put in the hard yards, you will find eventually find some good fish. It sounds like you found some good ground anyway if you caught a pinky and a dhuie?
Maybe PaulG can give you some better advice? He is the local expert up that way! Sounds like he has to try hard not to catch them!
PS - Earlier this year when I got my PB Dhuie from TwoRocks, we drifted but also threw a handful of choock pellets overboard every couple of minutes. Not sure if that was the reason for the catch but it obviously didn't do any harm!
Also I was using Cali squid on two 6/0 snelled hooks on a paternoster rig type setup. Hope that helps a bit! Good Luck!
I fish for the future - Cause I can't bloody catch anything!
