We are the 2nd Champions...AIBT 2011
Hi all,
the numbers for the AIBT where down in the shithouse but we still came out victors..( almost ) We got 2nd place in the Tag and Release Sailfish section.
Day 1 we tagged a sailfish in the arvo and raised 3 for the day. Caught on 15kg guestimated to be about 20kgs. Also got 3 tuna.
Day 2 We saw 3 in the first hour and a half of fishing but an end result of zero tags.
Day 3 No tags until about 2pm and on our way home to the pub we managed to tag one so we bogged lapped and managed to tag another. both caught on 37kg line. first Sail was about 35kg and the 2nd was 15kg .
We missed out on the win by 200 points as the other boat ( a local boat Cat Weasel ) caught there 3 on 15kg.
A big thanks to Cliff and Baz for being a great crew and looking forward to next year.

Very Proud.
I managed to get back into town an hour before having to be at the presentation.. at the time i didnt actually know that Jeff and the boys had caught the last 2 Sails..
I was so excited when they called them as runners up ..especially in such a big Australian wide event. We have only lived in Exmouth for 4 years and he is so dedicated to learning about billfishing!!
I am so super proud to see how good he has done..well done my baby ..you are awesome.
I was however disappointed in one thing!! It was surprising how many of his so called "friends" have actually not congratulated him!! He goes out of his way to help has Mates with things and nothing!! Is it jealousy?? He is not bothered but i am!!
So thankyou to all you wonderful people for congratulating him he is a great fisherman and he and cliff and Baz should be proud of there Effort..xx

Good effort Jeff
Coming second to Cat Weasel is something to be proud of.I have fished with him and against him for many years and he knows his stuffHe would be one of the only guys up that way that has caught a true grander that he swam for near on an hour to make sure it made the best chance. It sounds like you just had a bit of bad luck in the line classes they chose to hit you on.The old case of you put out 10 and 15 to be hit by 200+ kilo marlin then you run 24 and 37 and hook small sails and dollies Murphy strikes again.
So tell me have you got your info from years on the water or hours on the internet?

Well done on the result,
Well done on the result, Deepwater. It was certainly the comp for taking opportunities when they came up. I was listening to the consistency of the small fish being called in, so we down sized outfits to 3 x 15 kg's and 2 x 24kg outfits in a points grab attempt, which seemed logical, until Big Bertha came up and ate one of the Moldies and so started a 4 hr fight which we ended up losing at the boat unfortunately. Like you say, Murphies law.
Interestingly, during the fight we had 6-8 smaller fish (probably males) following the boat more than likely looking for some actin from the big girl and I was 'profusely discouraged' from throwing a pitch bait to them in fear of losing the big one.
Hindsight is wonderful!
On another note, I dont think Ive heard so many dropped fish in a comp before. There were heaps of boats with daily Skeds of, say, 6 raised, 5 hooked, 0 tagged and the like - made for a very close comp.
Ahh well, Dampier Classic in June.........
