Most of the ones who stay at Two Rocks would be out in the middle ground--5-20nm ,just inside of Direction bank. The rest would be up around Cervantes or Jurien Bay for the whites run up there then gradually work their way back down mid January
dived 24 metres off rotto today and caught 489 huge reds, all which were either berried or had hairy legs like a dodgy tranny.
managed 4 keepers all good sized, but a bit disappointing when you've looped 6 crays in 6 minutes into the dive and not one of them is a keeper. buddy got his limit, mostly just sized reds.
looks like they've done the bolt
Still too early, they are just running them off in lines across where they think the crays will march.
Wait another 3 weeks untill the whites have finished, then they will start dropping them on lumps untill the reds fire up
Had done well at 35mtrs n.rotto but dropped off. Went to 55m and had 3 today. Afew pros are in 85mtr,80,65 and 50 so out pretty wide allready. Still some pros in 32mt west of Hillarys
from what i saw today, the future of the cray industry is looking like its gonna have a couple of good years soon....
we did a couple of deep dives on the south side of rotto today. i think 28m was the deepest, and we had exactly the same as you - faaaaaark loads of big berried reds and tar spots. struggled between 3 divers, but got our bag eventually.
might start hiitin the regular jumbo haunts and lumps. at least they dont march out like the whites.
i usually have no trouble gettin a feed from rotto, and yes some spots at rotto (i reckon mostly north spots though.....), are known for havin lots of berried crays, but definately not in the numbers i saw yesterday. there was literally 100 berried or tarspot crays, to every keeper.
I been gettign crays for the last 3 years from rotto south side, always getting plenty of females with eggs, but this thins right out after christmas tho
Gets better later in the season tho, early season usually a lot more berried females.
Unusually tho, on sat we got a couple whites with tarspot, not seen any before!
nearly all my keepers were whites. caught a few whites that were tarspot, and a couple that were berried. a couple of good sized red males for the bag too.
i have been diving at rotto for the last 12 years, mostly south side. you will see a lot more diving, than you will with pots. i have never seen as many berried crays (mostly reds),as what was there on the weekend. it was more a case of shining the torch underneath them first, to check for eggs before i went the loop.

scotto, south side has always had truck loads of berried reds.
Its a pretty good breeding ground in there.
But not sure why the pro's are out so deep, looks like they still have propect pots on the 5?
Had my pots in the water for 3 weeks now, only just got the first whites on the weekend.
Looking at the wind for the next week, might just have to be a bumpy early saturdy run.
think the demersals will get af ew more days left alone looking at this weeks weather :)
