Where to go freshwater fishing??
Submitted by Bradk on Wed, 2011-03-23 21:10
Hey all, im new to the forums here but am totally mad about fishing.
I've done a lot of salt water fishing (ocean and swan river) but have recently paid for my fresh water fishing licence and am keen on chasing some trout and redfin down south.
just wondering if anyone knows of any good spots close to perth (i live in canning vale) but also that i can access without a 4WD as i dont have one or a boat.
any help would be appreciated.
Cheers
Brad

waroona dam, about 1 hour
waroona dam, about 1 hour from the city i think... little pink spinning blades work well against the rock wall (but your not meant to fish there)
also we found a little spot that has a stream running from the hills into the dam that make squite some white water wash, often holds some Rainbows... dont need a 4x4 but when it rains sometimes near the banks it gets a bit muddy, otherewise it really hard firm sand, like its been compacted.

there is quite a stretch of banks, just take your car and try as many places....
look for bends in banks, and also where fast water or choppy water bends into calmer water....
if you get there EARLY in the morning sometimes you can see a splash from them eating insects...
havent been there in 1.5 years but really want to get back there with a kayak...

you want to be there at
you want to be there at sunrise mate or sunset either of the light chaners i have found the trout at waroona feed btter at sunset and they love little mepps thunder bugs or pimk and green celters but with the water as lows as it is i would be fishing the deepest part(the dam wall) with babey vibes in the perch color and 50mm squidgy wrigglers in the raibow trout color but the best peice of advice i could give you is look for cold water and that stream diehard is on about will be your best bet

wrong time of year IMO
water level is low after a brutally hot summer and its coming to the end of the season (closed April 30th). By all means give it a crack if you are super keen, but dont have any major expectations.
For me, I would wait until September next year when the season re-opens and cross your fingers we get some wet stuff over winter.....
