Thinner so less visible, some will argue mono only, get more strikes but may loose the odd one to bite off. I'm using about 200mm of single strand as the lures I will be using aren't big so good chance of biting the leader
I use about a foot of 80-100lb mono from lure to mainline (with swivel) but change it every time i land a macky, otherwise it's about 4-6 inches of coated wire to mono to mainline. Mainline is all braid except my overhead (37kg pre-stretch/GT slayer).
even on trolling, but for shock absorption use a long wind-on leader off about 4m. Then ball bearing swivel (black not gold as macks on the bite will bite a shining swivel) to about 300mm single strand to lure with Haywire twist onto split ring, then lure. I tried to get away with no swivels, but despite line twist not being a mayor issue with braid, with a lure on for some reason twist becomes an issue with the wind-on.
I am aware some would never use braid trolling, but I have found that a long leader provides the shock proofing, ah and it should be plain mono IMO, not flouro as mono has more stretch.
Have also tried a heavy leader without wire, but still got bite-offs. Reason I tried that especially in Dampier was that where there are macks, there also is tuna, and they spook at wire.
