WTB Boat

If you had a budget up to $75,000 for a trailer boat and you wanted to do both creek and out wide fishing (up in the Pilbara), what would the recommendation from the Fishwrecked crew be?
What max hp would you put on it if it was going to be used for both creek and out wide?

$75k for up creeks? You would have to be nuts, or like doing a lot of paint/gelcoat repairs.

Get a nice boat and a tender =)

Think he paid around 50 for his velocity 5.2 (may need to check that price) but that does the creeks in style, does wide and gets you to the montes etc.  If I was in the market I would certainly consider one like his.

Alucraft 5 metre x all 4mm plate ali with a 60hp Etec on the back.
Weather permitting I regularly go to the island off Carnarvon [29nm to Koks island] with 2 on board.

Originally had a 40 hp Lombardini diesel and a Castoldi jet but was unsuitable for the area here because of the large amount of floating weed clogging the pickup so put the outboard on.Very economical, about 4nm to the litre. Was a wet boat untill I had spray rails welded on to the forward chines cutting out the spray and improving the already good ride even further.

For further info just ask.

we have the same boat as steve f only an earlyier model

Fri, 2010-03-05 15:01

it serves as a great sea going boat  capable of fishing offshore and rides very well without bashing - also very manouverable in estuaries eg mandurah were we ussually go crabbing it is ideal ( very economical as well ) with the 130 litre fuel tank we rarley use more than 20litres even when travelling quite far off shore - heaps of deck space for fishing and plenty of rod holders for storage and setting lines out - my old boy tows his with a 2.8 diesal hilux as well and has never had a problem hitting 100kmph on the highway - a great alround boat

this is the ducks nuts for that kind of work.
http://www.gsmarine.com.au/

GS Marine make a killer machine for that kind of job.
Teh centre consul 600C or the side consul 600S,

With top class sounders & GPS and a nice sunshade overhead, you'd ahve a little change from $70K.

for me, it would be this one from them..

this is a perfect balls-to-the-wall fishing rig!

I think you'd get laughed out of the creeks in one of those.  Especially when the other boaties see the look on your face as your idling over 2 foot over rockbar trying to get in an out of a creek on an outgoing tide.  Offshore, for sure!

Adan, quite a few of those

Sat, 2010-03-06 08:56

Adan, quite a few of those GSMarines now cruising the South Alligator and West Alligator rivers in Kakadu park NT, The rock bars are extreme there!

Those boys up there are not scared to scratch a bit of paint for a 1m bara!!! oh and they cruise at 30 knots in 5 foot of water at times....lol.. scary stuff.

Those boys hit the river on the high tide, go out with the tide, fish the sea till the tide comes back and run the tides back in....get your timing wrong and you spend the night on the water with the mozzies till the next high tide...lol

Pilbara

Pilbara and NT are very different creek fisheries is my point.  Which is why recommending something suitable is what has been asked.  Sure is a nice boat though!

Commodore

I like the look of the Commodore boats.  One of the sites sponsors!  If I won lotto, I'd be looking at them but they'd be no good up the creeks.

yeeah two boats are the go

Fri, 2010-03-05 18:08

yeeah two boats are the go ... id nearly sell my 7.5 westerberg for 55000 and that would give you 20000 for a side console 4.75m as the creek machine. thats what ive done anyway :)

my big rig is for deep stuff and the tinnie is for crabbing and river fishing down here.

get a trailcraft

Fri, 2010-03-05 21:28

profish or tournament if you dont have the space for 2 boats, trailcraft would suit the tuff conditions up north and ideal for ocean/creek fishing

have you seen how malcolm douglas treats his boat

heres trailcraft

stabicraft frontier

Sat, 2010-03-06 07:03

stabicraft frontier would be my pick for that far up north. Lots of the barra guides in the territory use this style of boat and obviously with good reason. they do a mix of bluewater and bigger creeks etc. You get a tough boat with full casting capabilities but a well tested offshore hull.

x 2 for a stabi. can do in & offshore. Although, I'd probably spend 50k on the offshore & 25k for the inshore.

A new boat?  What's wrong

Mon, 2010-03-22 19:11

A new boat?  What's wrong with the Green Machine he's got?  I'll think about it if I win lotto and you rip all the Green decals off.  People might mistake me for Green?  I might get my head knocked off! Lol.

If i could choose a boat, id

Mon, 2010-03-22 19:07

If i could choose a boat, id go with brads. perfect for your application mate. sleeps two on the back deck (three if you dont mind spooning) and like adam said, gets him up the creeks and to the monties. and it Handles the rough stuff well for an ali boat of its size. the skipper probably helps a bit tho...

Tue, 2010-03-23 10:37

i purchaced the new 5.89 stacer at christmas time and had it fitted with the Yamaha 150hp vmax 2 stroke.

I sold my 6.6 Razerline 2008 mdl with 225 Yammy to purchase the new rig, what a perfect boat wheighs nearly half the towing weight of the razerline have used it for crabbing, skiing does 44 knots and have been out 22mile from two rocks very user friendly boat.Plate ally 4mm sides self draing deck 2.48 beam better economy than the 225hp.
