i got my trip calculator working for the first time the other day , finally bothered too anyway.
did 95 nautical miles (176 klm) on a big day on sunday for 118 litres.

176 km is a fair distance Graham, hope you found some fish in between!!
We probably did around 115km on Sunday and burnt 80lt of fuel, I have a 175 Opti.
I would think that you would be in the ball park with your figures.

102 nautical miles (183km)
102 nautical miles (183km) with the boat loaded up with camping gear, ice etc for 147 litres travelling at between 27 and 32 knots out of a 300 suzuki on a 24 foot glass c/c. Works out at 1.25 km/litre. We usually average just over 1.3km/litre in fishing/diving trim. Steve231 is getting 1.43km/litre and grayzeee 1.49km/litre.
Depends alot how you drive but its all pretty good I reckon

91nm at about 103L on a 115hp 4 banger yammie -5.65 haines c/c. Mix of trolling and full speed during the FW comp, haven't really had another opportunity to test it since. :( This weekend should see the end of that!

My Traily 5.4 with 90 E-Tec, running at 20 knots out and a tad off flat out 28 knots on way home, 130 km for 55 L = 2.4 km/L or 1.5 Nm/L, plus a bit of direct inject oil.
The old mans 36 Rivierra with twin 370 hp diesels.......
- Trolling at 6 knots off boost...... 0.8 Nm/L
- "Cruising" at 25 knots, wankerpoles out, chugging back a chardonnay with 5 skantily clad birds hanging off me (I wish...)..........less than 0.2 Nm/L...............hahaha....

I wanted to set up similar
I wanted to set up similar topic some time ago. Lets assume that I know very little about boats (because I do) but how come you get about 10 times more kms per litre from a car then from a boat? Is it a motor’s technology/propeller efficiency or the drag of the water? Once the boat is on the plane, it shouldn’t be too bad. I should have payed more attention at school to answer my question. :)

Well, thats one factor, but
Well, thats one factor, but its more so related to the drag, which is a factor of the density area and speed (among other things). A lot of kilos of water need to be pushed out of the way. Even on the plane theres a fair bit of drag. A car on the other hand happens to have 4 of the most efficient mechanisms possible, which is a wheel. Most cars have very little rolling restance, which means they mostly only need to overcome air resistance.
When you drop into neutral into a boat, it will stop pretty quickly, while a car of similar weight and going the same speed could go for hundreds of meters. So the boat requires a lot more force to overcome drag (even when planing), and therefore the engine will require more fuel.
Also, cars tyres stick to the road, so in most situations you have no slippage. A boat propellor on the other hand is not anchored to the water, so cant 'grip' nearly as well. The motor itself will be of comparable efficiency to a car, and they tend to get run in a more efficient band.

Just did my homework and you
Just did my homework and you are right. I ended up on hovercraft website. That’s an idea – no drag of the water. I think I will get one instead of a boat.
Looks like fun.

Might be a little hard to fish off and good luck with the swell :p Actually, go have a look at their fuel efficiency (for a small one). How are they propelled? ;)

that and the fact your boat motor
is normally sitting on 4000/5000rpm the whole time your driving and your car engine wil be at 1500/2000 rpm while driving so that is already twice the consumption rate
you guys are lucky with your fuel consumption I have a cat with twin 115 yammy 4 strokes and am only getting 1.1 kms / liter combined

Actually, rpm and fuel
Actually, rpm and fuel consumption is not linear dependent. The consumption of a common petrol car engine is “normal” between lets say 2000rpm and 4000rpm and then the increase is sharper after that. But you can’t say, that at 2000rpm the consumption will be 5 l/100km and at 4000rpm 10 l/100km. What I found when doing my “homework”, that shape (pitch) of the propeller should be matched with your desired – most common speed. Which might be hard when you want to get to your spot quickly and then troll. Interesting topic anyway. The way, how boats are powered hasn’t changed much in last 250 years, so I am wondering if we got stuck or we just got it right back then. Similar to pushbikes, where the system hasn’t changed since donkeys years.

Yeah, partly true, for the part of the boat which stays under water, but because boats are not submarines, I am still wondering…

there's an eye opener. the sub 115 hp tubs (with engine size at top of hull rating) are getting some great figures.
and trolling will really suck the juice badly. (may have to look at a 4 blade prop to help there)
i know that generally , a big day out for me is 100 litres most times. (but that is a big day)
certainly helps having a deckie to spread the costs

Similar figures to Harro. I've got a Betram 20 with a 150 Yammy on the back. Pretty happy with the usage. But that can double, depending on conditions and cruising speed.

Best I get is about .9nm per litre out of a 200 yammie in a 659 stabi but in reality about .7nm/l is normal into any sort of swell. I pretty much bank on 100L for a full day out wide past the bank or trolling billies up north. Just put a 4 blade on but haven't really had a chance to test it. not sure I like the feel though, seems to make the boat very "floaty".

Trailcraft 6m 115 yam4
does 1.15 nm to the litre at 20knots (4000rpm) or 17 litres an hour.
Pretty happy with the motor-7 years old 300hrs and whisper quiet except for resonance about 2000 as it starts to plane.
Plenty of power except with 4 or 5 plus dive gear-thatd be the only reason Id replace it with a suz 140.
