crabbing

since the fisheries have taken a week or more and still have not not back to me, what are the do's and dont's  of crabbing  ?

do you need a  fishing liscence from a boat ?

are the months you cant crab ?

can you only keep males and which is which ?

  whats the boat limit ? 20 ?    and pots ? 10 ?

Accuracy of Plotter Charts

99.9% of the time I find the contours and lumps / holes showing on my plotter spot on but there was one occasion a few years back I was looking for a mark off the Murions at Exmouth that on the plotter rose to from 80m to 58m and yet when I travelled over it the sounder showed flat as.  I circled a few times without any sign of a lump and then moved on.  Anyone had a similar experience?

Boat transport - interstate

Its in very good condition still, possibly somebodys christmas present.A google tells me this model retails for $499 so Im guessing the owner would appreciate it back.

Has the site been down, or is it just me??

Just kept getting crashed messages all day. I can hear some off you out there saying that might be a good thing because I havent posted anything, but just wondering.

To retire or not -- TC Bianca

Whats the call. Do you think that she has caused enough grief to retire her name, or will we see a TC Bianca again.

I somehow think anything that goes near Perth and does anything will be retired and she did cause some distruction down there.

TC Bianca - storm surge and North-Westerly waves at Cottesloe

I took these pictures at about 4:00-5:00 yesterday (Sunday 30th Jan). It shows the NW waves and storm surge swallowing up Cottesloe beach. Speccy stuff, and not usually seen during summer.

what a load of legal CR@P!!! paying compensation to people smuggler Captain..WTF

http://www.watoday.com.au/national/canberra-settles-after-destroying-refugee-boat-20110130-1a9px.html

Canberra settles after destroying refugee boat
Selma MilovanovicJanuary 31, 2011

THE federal government has reached a legal settlement with the captain of a Vietnamese fishing boat after it destroyed the vessel he used to bring 53 asylum seekers to Australia in 2003.

The confidential settlement ends a long-running court case which has cost the government millions.

Last year three Federal Court judges ruled that if the government could not establish a lawful basis for destroying the boat, the Hao Kiet, its captain was entitled to compensation.

In 2003 the government reopened the Christmas Island detention centre to house the asylum seekers and spent $50 million keeping them there for two years before all were granted temporary protection visas.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

this makes my blood boil! How can we show a strong face against people smugglers when judges rule like this!!!

time to make judges do a few hours of community service every week, as they out of touch with reality and the people!

good quality rechargable spotty, do they exist?

ive had an eye out for a good quality rechargable spotty that could run off 12v,  and wont break in a month, for about a year now and cant find one.

have bought 2 "SCA" brands from supercheap and have both died within a month of purchase, one due to excessive use-it didnt have one of them good quality lithion (i think) batteries.

the other fired up inside as it wouldnt stop charging once it was full, so we would always forget to unplug it when we thought it was done.

it will be used for fishing camping fox spotting (bastards love our chooks, i think it eats them too) boating etc.

could anyone recomend a good quality product, wont mind paying good money as long as it lasts.

hope one exists, rob

Unusual Sighting Off Mindarie

Have been checking pots out of Mindarie for 7 years now and have seen Dolphin, Sambos, Snapper, etc - went out this morning and saw a sea turtle on the surface!! Have seen them before diving in Whitsundays, snorkelling Port Douglas and boating around Broome. Unusual for here.

Was out between the 1 and 3 mile in 13 metres.

just heard of a big front comming in soon. not the cyclone

just heard from a friend that a big front is on its way, suposed to be bigger than the one that caused the hail storm last year.

Batten down your hatches and turn off the computers .

CLEAVERVILLE CREEK ADVICE

Hi all, can anyone (within the Pilbara region) provide some advice on fishing within Cleaverville Creek?  Ive heard there are a few Barra landed there, I am a lure fisho and hope to give it a go shortly during a neap tide???  Any advice would be greatly appreciated...Cheers in advance!

Winch question

Why is it nearly everyone mounts their winches on the front of the car when all the good books tell you that if you get bogged the easiest way out is back from where you came. This is because you know what you have already driven over but not what lies ahead.

So in my opinion it should be able to fit over the towball with detachable cables so when not in use it could be stored away. All it would need to work from the front of the vehicle woyld be a towball fitted to the bumper / roobar

are you covered for flood damage??? check

http://www.aami.com.au/policy-documents … policy.pdf

how many of you have read the fine print in your insurance cover of late???
Seems AAMI does not cover for flood damage, tsunami / tidal wave, high tides or other actions of the sea ( that would include storm surges)
They define the diference between Flood and Storm / Rainwater, so many are not covered.

quote"

Flood - Means the inundation or covering of normally dry land by water which: escapes or overflows from, or cannot enter, because it is full or has overflowed, or is prevented from entering, because other water has already escaped or been released from it, the normal confines of any watercourse or lake, including any that may have been modified by human intervention, or reservoir, canal, dam or storm water channel. Flood does not mean storm water run off from areas surrounding the site or water escaping from any water main, pipe, street gutter, guttering or surface. AAMI Home Insurance does not cover flood. "

mmmm guess who i'm not keeping my policy with???

luckly i'm not near a river, lake or any of the defined sources of a flood, so I'm covered for Cyclone run off and storm water at least!

But people with AAMI polices near the Swan River or on canals down south are stuffed if this cyclone brings in a storm surge!

Tyrnos V TLD

Have a mate who is looking for a trolling outfit. Probably run 24kg.

He has looked at a TLD 30 2speed and the Tyrnos 30 2 speed, price differance around $180

Just wondered if the Tyrnos is that much better. I can't advise him as have never used a Tyrnos

Cheers

Rick

Advice please

I would appreciate some advice from the mechanically minded amongst you. Like a lot of other people we are doing it a little tough at the moment so the wife's Santa Fe AWD had it's 200,000 k service today rather than buying her a new Landcruiser - ha! The manager at the service centre has told her that the fact i had 225 -70-R16 tyres fitted to the front last week instead of 235 - 70 -R16's as are fitted to the rear will cause imminent catastrophic failure of the centre diff. The back tyres are apparently scalloped from worn shocks - not visible but there is a bit of road rumble. Is he pulling my choke or is this possible? We seriously can't afford to fit another $400 worth of tyres and $ 400 of shocks just now. I am not sure if he is having a lend but spark plugs at 430 each and the power steering not flushed unless we ante another $88 seems a bit strange on $1300 plus gst service.

A cheap gps back up!

Well with my PC plotter system going bust on me over Christmas ( and now just been fixed), I decided to find a back up system that could be used and not cost the earth.

Well to my surprise, I have found that the Telstra T-Touch-Tablet has a built in GPS reciever and after downloading Navionics Android powered charts ( whole of Australia) for only 9 Euro, I had a 7inch screen GPS system.

charts are very clear and with the high definition screen on the T-Tab, was a pleasure to use last night coming back from Skyworks to Ascot Marina. My present charts on my normal GPS system do not cover the river after the Causeway Bridge, where as the Navionics Android downlod did cover all the way up to Guildford.

Function is basic tracking and gives you a bearing indicator to show your direction, but works well and very accurate in fact. No "goto" or other functions, but for 9 Euro what do you expect.

As for the T-Tab, we got 4 hours on it, including doing facebook, navigating and browsing the web during the day, then ran it on a 12V ciggie charger for the evening.

At $299 on a pay as you go package, it's a dam good buy when seen as a marine & land GPS back-up, mobile phone, web tablet and more with a camera etc built in.

With my new Furuno plotter coming soon, I am thinking of tossing out the whole PC based system I have and keeping the Android tablet as the back up for river work, as the chart is bloody great on the Swan.

awsum radar pics exxy

Hope this works but check out these pics of the squall we got here this arvo. Radar is on our boat at the marine ramp. First pic at 4.48pm , second at 4.51 pm .

We raced out in a break in the wind today and got half a dozen good goldens, heaps of smallish snapper of all sorts and Bec got a nice gold spotted cod. Didnt bring a fish home but had a fat time. . . Only a couple of miles from the ramp too :-)

Pt Samson Boat Ramp

Got a mate heading up to Point Samsom with a Boston Whaler 235 Conquest and unsure of ramp conditions there, any info on tide effects, depth etc would be greatly appreciated.

A refreshing drink anyone?

Found this while looking around, interested to see how it works.

Cheers
