Hi Fellas - quick question - if you have a property that a small stream runs through and you happen to find Marron in that section of the stream, are you allowed to take them out of season as they are on your land?

Tryed it out last weekend and all i have to say is WOW!!!!!!

Water clarity wasnt the best around freo (first part of vid below) but in rock it was a little better)

Highly recomend them to fellow fishers/divers!!

Also great for lowing to the bottom on some thick line to see what the bottoms like.

 Just a heads up.

Unfortunately, it appears Fisheries interpretation of the legislation ATM regarding the RBFL and bag limits are not particularly recfisher friendly. Example : If there are 4 fishers on board who catch their bag limits for the day, but mistakenly three of the fishers forgot to renew their licences, the bag limit then shifts to the guy who HAS a licence and he is charged with exceeding his bag limit, even if he has no idea the others Don't have one.

F*** knows what the story would be if there were 5 on board, and only 3 have licences. Maybe they divide it up and book all 3 RBFL holders … ?

I  understand that if somebody didn’t have a license, then they could only catch under Licence holders (who are on the boat at the time) bag/s  ….. but it’s pretty unfair that if someone is forgetful or whatever, that it becomes the fault of the fishers doing the righty and they cop the fine.

Hope all that made sense :P

Well, we headed out of Hillarys Monday night for a comfortable trip heading up to Jurien for the dawn to hit the FAD.

Managed to get a heap of dollies up to 10kg on the FAD all SP's and lures.

After that, he headed north, with the marlin gear out, got down into a nice BBQ lunch (mmm, dollie burgers), when we ended up landing a 60kg black!

Had a few more strikes as well as a few odd tuna (stripeys and YFT).

Managed to fish a few bottom fishing spots and got some dhuies on jig and a pinky.

Hit up turtledove by 3pm and fished it all arvo past sunset. It was on like you wouldnt believe. Lures werent in the water for more than 5 minutes and they would be smashed. Heaps of YFT around and multiple hookups.

Got a fair few other species like stripeys, sharkies, a sambo and a decent mack. Managed to get a few on lures too.

Around sunset, managed to get a double hookup of wahoo!

After that we anchored near the shoal and beleryed up, landing heaps of fish on floaters and even a bigeye on a SP lure when it was dark.

Fished all night, then had the morning troll around the reef where we managed to pick up heaps more pelagics and a few dhuies off the shoal. Then hit up some bottom fishing spots on the way back and managed to land a few more dhuies, several more pinkies, a baldie and 2 nice sized coral trout. Back in Gero marina just after midday.

Awesome trip!

Of course, most will recognise these pics. Thats because this trip hasnt happened yet! So get on board!

Apart from the Jurien marlin and the dollies (which we didnt fish), the rest of it was exactly out experiences from the last two trips to turtle dove! Its insane!  So its still a pretty fair indication of the way the trip will go. First two pics are just for indication, so apologies for using them (but havent caught my own marlin or dollie at Jurien yet).

Heres the info:

Leave Hillarys Monday 28th March in the evening.

Fish the Jurien FAD for dollies for a few hours on Tuesday.

Troll for about the 4-5hrs up to turtle dove for Marlin and stray tuna (maybe a wahoo too).

Get to turtle dove early arvo and fish that til its dark. YFT, wahoo, mackies, dhuies, cobia.

Fish all night on it too (anchor and berley if the weather permits, or somewhere else nearby otherwise).

Fish turtle dove in the morning for the sunrise, then bottom fishing spots for dhuies, pinkies, baldies, coral trout. on the way back to Geraldton for midday/early arvo. Drive back to Perth by the evening of Wednesday 30th March.

Works out to be fishing all day tuesday, tuesday night and wednesday morning.  You'll only need Tuesday and Wednesday off.

Cost is to be determined (depends on people), but about the cost of two charters (considering you get about 3 charters worth of time at the best spots its fricken good value!). Somewhat flexible though.

But if you're interested, let me know, and i'll see what I can frantically organise. It will be an absolutely awesome trip if you can make it. Its well worth it! I will post up the two previous threads, but everyone who has been to turtle dove has had an awesome time with heaps of fish caught (lots of demersals and heaps of pelagics).

Apologies for such a noob post!!

Is there some sort of ettiquette in regards to where you can and cant fish in the river?  I ask because I have done the most obvious spots to death over the last 2 months (garret rd, canning bridge, redcliffe etc etc etc) and want to venture out to the less obvious spots.

For example I went down to a spot in Claremont where a fellow FW member caught a nice looking bream in the last week.  Without giving too much away you have to waltz down various driveways, through private carparks etc etc.  I went there this morning to have a look around and felt like I was 15 again with my skateboard tucked under my arm hoping no security guards spot me!!  (I didn't live near the beach so skate boarding was the best I could do!!).  I found myself thinking if I do get my rod out of the car and start walking down to the specific spot is someone going to start running towards me shaking their arms in the air yelling and screaming telling me to bugger off?!?

Another example is the rocky side of the river (south perth side) between the cuaseway and the Swan River Trust Depot.  Not sure if it is even worth wetting the line their but I am only using it as an example.

I know that obviously yacht clubs and where there are no fishing signs are off limits but in the interest of not making a nusience of myself and ruining it for other people who know the times that they can get away with going to these spots I want to make sure I know what to expect.

Is it just a case of suck it and see?  try it and if you get told to move on then leave?  or am I just letting my skateboarding experiences ruin my fishing travels?

Have been reading FW over the last couple of months and (if you will pardon the pun) I am hooked!

Saw a 30 to 40lb spaniard free jump no more than 150 metres off the Donald Drive ramp in Warnbro Sound today! Damn - I was having a walk, should have been on the boat, water was like glass. Oh well, Steep point on Friday....

The annual pilgrimage (in it's second year for most of us) to Yeagarup is coming up in a few weeks time. Hopefully there will be a few salmon around. We didn't see much else caught last year - just a few herring and one very juvenile flathead.

From your own experiences are we likely to catch much else as a bycatch of chasing salmon - eg. sharks or by some stroke of luck that old elusive mulloway? Is it worth fishing at night there?

Anyone on this site know of a marlin caught recently by a benson and hedges smoker?(Perth based)

Hit the river up for the third time last night. Got there around 8ish few casts and an alright squid followed the jig in but wouldnt hit it. Change of jigs and cast out again let it sink down the squid followed it again but wouldnt hit it again. Few more casts around and a couple of bait fisherman were collecting prawns for bait in the shallows and said that there is a nice squid eating all the prawns, i changed to a 1.8 yo zuir and had a few casts around no luck tho. Went back to the main jetty had another cast and bang got one bring it in iki spike it and have another cast another hit but it fell of straight away not happy. Oh well that was all the action for the night but i was happy to get my first river squid.

hello all i have a problem with my 40hp honda 05 model the trim seems to move about one inch either way up or down then seems to sieze up then makes a faint clicking sound from under the engine cover when i try to go up or down after its siezed the only way i can lift the motor is with the manuel override anyone had this problem before or any info would be great cheers ...solved the problem water had got into the electric motor on the trim tilt pump bad design by honda perished rubber o ring salt water had gummed up the brushes ,cleaned them up put em back bit silocone around old o ring prob fixed great,this is where it gets crazy called local honda dealer to order new set of brushes as old ones aint A1 to be told honda dont sell them seprate only way he could help me was to sell me the complete electric motor for $935.00 any body who has ever changed a set of brushes nows they are a worth about $10.00 ,he also tells me that he has had to order in complete power heads for motors because honda wont sell some parts seperate????makes ya think twice bout hondas..cheers trev..

One of the GT's from the recent ONO trip. Not the biggest, but nice fish. For people like me who have never caught a G before, it was a big eye opener. Very tough fish.

     MY question is perhaps for you divers out there. It seems to me that theres little point using Red , Orange or Yellow soft plastics in 30m (100ft ), because those colours of the spectrum are lost at that depth. I suppose what I really want to know is (from your experience) what colours do stand out at 30m +. cheers Pete

threw 2 rods out, got a nice run at 5.40am, it spooled 300m of 20lb line by the time i wokup! no stopping him!

just wondering what line / rigs every one is using there! was using a balloon rig and was allready 100m out!

Hey guys, does anyone know who has a big range of soft plastics? I am after a particular one, it's made by snapback, and it's the albino in colour (5inch for reef fish). Found some nice bait schools late on Friday and managed to raise 2 Marlin just before sunset, headed straight there yesterday and within 30min had raised another 2, an hour in and we had a double hook up, one on lure and one on a livey we dropped back on the strike, we tagged a small 40 - 50kg Blue off the lure and dropped the one on the livey, re-set the spread and 20min later tagged a Black slightly larger. Within the next hour we picked up 2 Wahoo, the first was 12kg and the second 21kg, the next few hours went quiet with a couple of stipe tuna around 6kg, 1 yelowfin about 10kg and a small shark on a drifting livey,

Heard local fishing guru in Bunbury say he favoured Marine Parks And sanctuary Zones on the radio. Lets have a large Marine Park around Bunbury to cater for the Dolphins. Lock everything up and shut every thing down to protect them from fishermen. Good idea or not?

 Hi all, had a great read of some posts, made a few comments [hope thats ok]. Came over from qld 18mths ago and only just found a fishing site that has fisherman that concentrate on the concept, not throw shit at one another, as another that i have monitored for bout 3 months. Look forward to some good fishing tales, and possible mates that share a common interest. Do most of fishing[without much succes] from my boat, but struggle to come to terms with good ground. So different from qld, where reef is unmistakable areas that are large, but close to shore, most within 20 mile of ramp. Not 30-50+ as appears to be the case here, and an area that a car bonnet would cover ! Mostly run out on my own, so if anyone would like to go for a fish, happy to take on board. Looking for "THE GROUNDS" constantly, without much success. {had a good nite on the beach recently, think maybe better to let the grass grow round the boat !} Live on south side, near Rocko, so anyone want to jump onboard for a fish [??!! love to catch a good one} is welcome. Have a carribean reef runner that i bought just after arriving here, but hardly used due to FIFO for the first 12 mths. Now work in local/country area, so have nore time to play. Some weekdays off, as with most w/ends, so keen to justify boat to Missus, and show some rewards. Cheers All, enjoy the deep blue.

well we havent been out for a placcy sesh for a couple of months as we have been super busy and i had a look at the plastics today and saw theyre all mouldy (presuming) ruined and stinky.

these 2 were the most ruined

and a close up of the worst (not even used as the end wasnt snipped off!)

we had about 8 placcys, half gulps and half squidgies in a plano waterproof container inside a plano waterproof tackle box (the clear ones with red trimmings) all of this mouldy stuff was on the gulps (the squidgies looked fine) but they all smelt like crap so i threw them out.

i used dizzys tournament gel the last time we used them and think thats the problem, has anyone else experienced this happening or is it just that gel?

the red and white gulp was never used so im dumbfounded to whats happened there.

im keen to hear any ways of caring for placcys as ive just bought some mcarthy placcys and dont want to have to chuck them all out.

generally if i can see the packet leacking i will chuck all its content in the container mixing new and old ones, is this bad? should i get another container and put the new ones in that, keeping them seperate from the used ones?

im keen to hear some feedback and hopefully it will hep others in prolonging placcy life.

Headed out friday moarn from mindarie with the weather looking good for a change, and what do you no it was right was complete glass. Tryed a few spots managed a couple of snapps to 6kg then before the seabreeze kicked in we made our way home picking up a macky on the way landed 1 of a triple strike bit of fun with only two people on board.

Any one fished chinamens in the past few days while this murky flooded water is around any croakers been hooked?

  Went 610.Caught on a 5 inch paddletail in baby elf, whilst drifting the back edge of the 3 mile out of 2 Rocks. Windy but fishable. cheers Pete.

Can anyone that has been to the harbour or Northmole recently confirm if they are still dredging? Someone said last night they have started again dont know if i believe him but the river visibility was very bad last night for a area that was meant to be clear.
