Tips and suggestions?
Submitted by sheldoncy23 on Thu, 2014-04-17 13:08Hey lads
afyer my trip to Albany for salmon I have decided to upgrade my stradic to a stella and my beach combo to a fin nor offshore 95 and I have a few questions.
Firstly I am undecided between a stella 4000sw or 5000sw or the new 4000fi and what rod to pair it up with. I used a 5000 with a FWA 9' and it wasn't very balanced. I would be running 20 or 25lb and it will be Mostly lures upto 60 grams and wanna keep the rod price to not much more than $200
secondly I'll be running 65lb on the fin nor and I need a rod to pair that up with. Was looking at the prevail any other opinions?
And lastly I'm looking for some spots SOR near Baldivis to get onto some black bream any opinions?
cheers lads

4 strokes
Submitted by deig on Thu, 2014-04-17 09:59Hi All
I just got back from 2 weeks in shark bay and kalbarri and spent a smallness fortune on fuel on my 2 stroke and it is making me look at upgrading to a 4 stroke. What are the best 4s and how much would a 150 - 200hp set me back?

Any tips on what I need to look out for? Or is Saturday looking like its completely not worth getting it wet?
Mainly chasing a few squid and a morning on the water...
Also, what colour jigs should I use on what day? Im a newbi to squidding.

Rod reel line combo help
Submitted by BarraSlayer on Thu, 2014-04-17 00:25Going to get new spin set up. I'm looking at a stella but not sure what size. I've mostly fished NT so very shallow. Would like to use the combo for jigging and spinning. I was thinking 30-40 lb braid. I was planning on fishing from boats Perth metro, Jurien and possibly some trips to exmouth. I don't want to get smoked but still want the versatility of a lighter setup for smaller plastic. I was looking at Stella 4000-6000. Not sure about ideal amount of line I need but was leaning towards the bigger ones. Would they be big enough for Samson fish and exmouth fishing? Also keen on rod suggestions. Should I go up to 8-10,000? Is that extra drag and line really required?
My current set up is overhead Trinidad Narrow Special 16N, 50lb bionic braid and T curve deep jig 200. I love the combo but went on a charter last year, got bit rough and the reel was only a few wraps from my backing mono. Thinking I would also need to find a smaller diameter line to fit more on.
I also have an heap of smaller baitcasting shimanos and gloomis rods for the estuary stuff but I don't see much use for it in the southwest.

Using Lures in the Swan and Canning
Submitted by Watony on Wed, 2014-04-16 15:56As the above suggests when does the success of Lures in the Rivers for Bream, Flathead, Tailor start to slow down.
As a new fisherman I have had some success over the summer months with all three as well as getting lots of exercise but all walking and no catching is getting a little boring.
I'm a catch and release man mainly in the rivers as fishing the beaches is something I have still to have a serious go at.
Any advice for this 63 year old would be greatly appreciated.
Tony

How good is this, we live in paradise
Submitted by Gman66 on Wed, 2014-04-16 06:58After buying kid fishing combo's for my daughgter (aged 5) that didn't last, I decided to get something that would last and be easier for her to manage and learn with (good back up combo for dad to!). We went down to Complete Angler an Camping in Rockingham where Phil did a good deal on a 2.5 kg Daiwa Laguna and a Rover ProPower 2000.
We had just enough time before dinner to head down to the beach (Safety Bay) to wet a line, I didn't expect to catch anything it was just to give the daughter a chance to try out the new rod. Second cast produced a 27cm tarwhine :). We finished on that note, walked home and fillited it up for dinner tonight.
Next adventure is a late night beach fish (school holidays) then out for a squiding session in the coming days
Priceless

Is there anyone or someone that knows a person in need of some basic boat combo's?
Submitted by drifta on Tue, 2014-04-15 21:22My old mans got a few Penn spin and oh boat combo's which are headed to the tip this weekend, nothing fancy but I gave them a quick look over an they all seem to be in working condition (the rods are all perfect).
If theres anyone on here that could make use of them please let me know, or if you know someone who would appreciate them come grab some for them. Alternatively if theres a moderator who would like to take them all an store them to help out the next person that get their gear flogged that'd be great.
From memory there is:
2 x Penn powerstick 6ft rods with penn spin reels
3 x Penn mariner plus 6ft rods with 330 gti reels
1 x Jarvis walker 24kg 6ft rod
1 x Alvey on a 6ft shakespeare rod
2 x Jarvis walker beach/rock rods (one with missing eyelet) and a jarvis walker reel
1 x Shimano aerowave heavy 12ft (the reel seat has come lose and needs fixing)
Pick up will need to be during the evening this week from Melville, after friday I'll be away and my old man will bin what ever is still there. Since this stuff is free I would prefer if just a few people took it all, I'm not holding 6 different combo's for 6 different people. sorry.
If you PM during the day I wont be on till after 6pm tomorrow night so will reply then.
Cheers
Brett

Exmouth marlin
Submitted by ctan1968 on Tue, 2014-04-15 20:19Hi all,
Going up to Exmouth in mid May and would love to put in some extra time to catch my first marlin. We regularly bottom fish out from tantabiddi at the 100m line and would like to spend a bit more time out there towing some skirts around. We have some teasers and a handfull of skirted lures so I guess we're in for a half chance at least.
Is the tide influential to marlin fishing? I normally fish the lead up to the high and then a couple of hours after the fall for demersals. Don't know if this rule applies for billfish. Thje moon will be full in our initial trips.
Is there a very generalised depth range for saills and marlin?
Just one hook up and pics will be enough for me...just to tick off the bucket list.
Any advice (yes I know there have been thousands of posts) would be great.
Thank you
Chris

Lost cowling cover
Submitted by dowders on Tue, 2014-04-15 19:56It is a long shot but if anyone is heading up north in the next week, I lost a cowling cover off my Yamaha 150 in between Joondalup and Geraldton. Travelled heaps and it has never come off. Happy to reward you with a carton if anyone sees it and picks it up for me. It is a genuine Yamaha one and just checked and they are bloody expensive to replace. Cheers
