Squidding in the swan

Are there any squid being held around the red herring at the moment? I am heading down tomorrow and I have never been there before. So what time will the squid fire and where abouts do I need to go to catch the squid. (Example) do I need to be on the shore or marina or what? All help is appreciated!

Thanks

LB crabbing question

If 2 people were to go crabbing with drop nets land based. is it legal to take 10 drop nets each so in total there are 20 nets? So basically if you get pulled up with 20 nets, 20 crabs in one car with 2 people have you done anything wrong?

The rules state "drop net; they must be no wider than 1.5 metres in diameter. There is a maximum limit of 10 drop nets per person or 10 drop nets per boat, regardless of how many people are aboard;"

I see it as all above book. just wondering if there are any other clauses.

Information for a greenie.

Morning blokes,

Im fairly new to the fishing scene, The last time i went fishing is probably about 10 years ago when i was a kid.

I have been for a cast a few times recently and with no much success, I was curious if anyone could point me towards a website with some info on rods/reel combos, rigs, bait and im fairly interested in giving lures a crack.

Cheers.

lure help

Howdy all,
needing some help in locating one of the circled lures, I had some which I bought many moons ago, but for the life of me can't find any around anymore. It was a Rapala Original Floating in the 3"/75mm long. It was almost the perfect Whitebait replica and managed to snare me more river Tailor than any other form of lure or bait. My problem is that one too many jumbo Tailor also liked them and managed to take them with them. So if anyone could lead me to where they may be would be appreciated, I have spent a number of hours searching the net as well as every tackle store I walk into.
thank you for the help.

Stabi craft performance

Set out off augusta in the father inlaws 8.6m stabi supercab, 4m swell and a moderate  southerly. Fair to say it was weather i would not brave in my ali boat. Was very impressed the way it handled when most of the time we were 3/4 throttle. I now know why they come standard with jesus bars inside the cab haha. Got an alright session in whilst out there and managed a good mixed bag. The neighbour fish at the bottom was caught in another boat but somehow made it into the photo haha.

Friday funnies

 Eyes on the prize(fighter)...

The intention was there though, and that's the main thing...

Someone told us that there's shark in this picture..?

He's spilled a lot of secrets...

 Someone has to keep order...

The look on Bumblebee's face says it all...

We hear they do a great waxing job here...

 The best type of CPR!

Bream Tagging Help

Hi all,

Can anyone point me in the direction of some bream in the swan/canning? I have been tagging bream for a Murdoch University research program funded by recfishwest.

Also just wanted to let people know if they do catch any of the tagged fish, you can keep them, but can you please measure the length, take down the tag ID number and pass on the information to the number provided on the tag.

If you can help by letting me know where they are biting that would be great. PM if you don't want to publicly share. People that are willing to help, I will keep them updated on recaptures and the fishes movements and growth.

Cheers

Forecast blues

OMG, theres one lone red arrow forecasted for wednesday on seabreeze next week!! Hooray!!!!!

This is depressing................

Worse than pingers?

Went down the beach for a fish with my son last night.......got all set up in a nice little gap in the reef and a car pulls up.
He sits there for a while watching us fish and checking out the water. It was blowing a 35km hr Southerly and the area we were fishing in was like a washing machine with the two of us struggling not to tangle our lines.
I made the comment to my young fella, that surely he wouldn't be stupid (rude)enough to throw a line in as well, when I hooked a nice Mulloway (70-80cm).
After landing the fish Id hardly rebaited and our visitor had dropped his line right were I was fishing!!!!
what's wrong with people? He had a 4x4.....had driven for kms up and down the beach passing dozens of other good fishing spots, but no......he's got to drop his line right where mine was because I caught a fish there!!!!!

I haven't had a cigarette for about 4 months now and the temper has been a bit of an issue.......so after a polite little chat he decided he would move down the coast and give us a bit of room.......a lot easier than having a fishing rod removed from his arse....LOL

At least pingers pinch your spots after you have gone!!!! LOL

Cheers

To the Port Bouvard rod combo takers

The small rod you've taken is my son's favourite and the 9ft rod was my Christmas gift from a special person which he bought despite the hardship he faces. I can deal with my disappointment, but my young son will find it hard to understand. It is not a lesson I wish to teach him at his young age. Can I ask your to return the rods please? Put them on the inside of the gates next to the garage. It will show you have a conscience and I will respect you for it.

Thanks

reccomendations for rewiring boat.

looking to rewire my whole boat can anyone recommend anyone that does a good job at a fair price? Marko

need help with Furuno 587 settings for deep drop

I have the TM260 transducer matched to the 587. Have had it for a while and have had the software upgraded to be able to select the correct transducer in the menu .
Unit reads bottom fine at any boat speed up to about 200mtrs deep but beyond that it is a bit hit and miss at any speed or at drift . Tried it on Monday in 300mtrs and all I could get was bottom reading that was hit and miss and sometimes drop out all together .All it was good for was sort of letting me know the depth but useless for finding fish or structure. If I had the TVG set to high it would black out the screen even with gain turned down to 1 or 2 .
At this stage I have fiddled with all the settings that much ( without getting any result)that I have no idea where I'm at .
I see pictures on fishwrecked of others using the same setup and getting good readings in 500mtrs so I know the unit is capable of it. What am I missing ?
I also have a hds unit and hooking up the same transducer in the same boat gives me a good reading in up to 900mts deep up at Exmouth. To me that would suggest the transducer is not the problem .
Hope someone is kind enough to tell me what settings I should be using eg . tvg ,gain , clutter , colour erase , etc.

Thanks for reading
Cheers

Another Cray Pot Rant

Went out and pulled the pots again today as well as dropped two more to replace the stolen ones. A very strange thing, the four pots that the three of us had left out there only got us two crays. Only one pots had crays in it (about 8 and only two size). The ropes on the other three were a lot cleaner than they were yesterday and the bait was almost all gone. Talking to people they said probably lice but clean ropes, f#@k all bait and pots slightly off the mark make me think other wise. Am I becoming very sinical and letting past experiences cloud my judgement on the human race being good or has society managed to culture more wankers than good people?

Kalbarri and Monkey Mia

G'day fellas I'm heading up north with the family in the next few weeks and will be throwing the rods and crab nets on board. Just wondering could anyone point us in the right direction of a few decent shore marks for myself and my young lad to fish for the likes of tailor, pinkies etc. any info would be greatly appreciated.

also just wondering does it be quite windy up that neck of the woods this time of year?

cheers

my dilemma. ..fish finder vs watch Freo win the GF

I am faced with a (nice) dilemma.  I have a significant birthday this year, ending in a zero and times it by two for a good batting score....

I have a choice to make.  Go to Melbourne in September to see Freo win the GF...  or a good fish finder for the boat???

It pains me to admit, I think the fish finder wins.  Did I say that out loud?

So.  The budget is no more than $1,500.  I am thinking a Simrad NSS7 combo plus transducer for just under $1,500.

What are people's experience with these units (good or bad), or better suggestions for the same budget?  I am happy to leave out the combo and just go with the sounder (leave the plotter for another day, my handheld gps will do for now).

BEST CRABBING BAIT !

I've always used mulies as bait and have caught a few crabs here and there, what do you experts use! I'm really keen on catching some in Mandurah next week

Thanks guys !
