Taking my daughter to get her first fish
Submitted by Spitfire56 on Wed, 2013-04-17 20:32Hello all, planning on taking my daughter to catch her first fish- she is 2. Not keen on taking her on the boat at this stage so was thinking of a trip to Moore river on Sunday.... Don't care what we catch but what is the view, is it realible? I know nothing is certain in fishing but would like to keep her interested. Don't worry we picked up a pink rod today so we should have decent luck!
Any thoughts would be appreciated thanks

Warm Water Species
Submitted by meglodon on Wed, 2013-04-17 16:22As everyone has noticed a lot of sub -tropical species are turning up in areas where they haven't been seen before, or at least not on a regular basis. The one thing I've been waiting to see reported in the metro area is that most avoided of all sea creatures the Sea Snake. Not that I want to see any it's just that with all other things coming down from up north I thought it would only be a matter of time before someone comes accross one. After a good winter storm it was quite common to find the odd sea snake or two washed up on the beaches in the metro area.
With the warmer water coming down is it possible that they are being eaten by the pelargics on their way south, just a thought.

Tell us about Walloped
Submitted by Quobbarockhopper on Tue, 2013-04-16 22:00Thought Id continue the "Tell us about...." feature angler thread while keeping it in the locality where it began with another legendary carnarvon identity.... Sir Walloped
For those of you who havent had the pleasure of aquaintance, he is a fw member who visits often but posts little, and the fishing community is poorer because of it. Local folklore has it that he was the Tasmanian naked freediving champion for several years in the late 80s before heading west to grace the gascoyne coast with his illustrious presence. He knows the Quobba coastline is such detail that there is a local groundswell of support to rename the guantlet on the path to Garths rock "wherewalldropped ledge" and he can gut, skin and quarter a goat with a blunt pen knife in under 2 minutes.
He has a perchant for Carlton Mid and supports a rubbish football team who are so enamoured to have him as their number one supporter that they will probably relocate to his home state in the next few years as a tribute to the great man.
I know a few members on here are lucky enough to have shared the company of the enigmatic musical maestro, so please recount some stories so all of us can bask in his greatness.... or even possibly hear from the legend himself, although as his modesty exceeds his even his awesomeness, but fingers crossed he will grant us that pleasure...

Furuno set up
Submitted by fishfish on Tue, 2013-04-16 21:08Hi all , a question for all the furuno users out there and specifically fcv 627 or it possibly doesn't matter.
What settings are you guys using for your clutter and colour erase ?? These two are the ones I'm having problems with everything else is sweet .
Im basically running a small percentage of each basically just to clear the screen up but I noticed that I can run a fair amount of gain approx 8-9 but varies .
Also does anyone use the interference function or is it just for exactly that electrical interference and if none present dont run it ???
Cheers for the help fishfish

Help with Outrigger Set Up
Submitted by Grooveepants on Tue, 2013-04-16 19:24Hi,
I'm after some advice on how to set up my outriggers.
I have TACO GS-250A Grand Slam outriggers mounted on my T-Top and would like to set them up with the option to run with clips and/or with Tag Lines so that I can have both baits and lures out. I have also seen you can run your teasers from the outriggers too but this may get a bit complicated as I'd need 3 pullys.
I don't want the outrigger lines attached to the gunwale as this would defeat the purpose of having a Centre Console but would rather it be attached to the T-Top. There is currently a place to clip the pully to on the top of the T-Top but it is quite hard to get too. I have seen them attached just under the T-Top on the verticle piping.
I would like to NOT have the tag line fixed to an eye on the pole but instead have it attached to the line and be able to position it anywhere along the pole by adjusting the line (if that makes sense).
If anyone has some photos or can give me some advice on what I need to purchase and how it is set up it would be appreciated.
Appologies for not knowing the correct terminology for the bits and pieces...
Cheers

Jigging Help Please
Submitted by kelsea on Tue, 2013-04-16 18:44I have the gear for jigging and have read a number of posts on the site but would like someone to break it down or me. I have pirates, pencils and octanaughts. For what I can work out I need to cast out so that by the time the jig hits the bottom it is directly underneath me. I generally fish 35 to 45 metres. What action/motion do I do with the jigs, how far do I bring them up, should I be holding the boat over the spot to try assisting keeping the jig underneath etc etc etc. All advice and help is appreciated.

Great White shark off Two Rocks
Submitted by Paul G on Tue, 2013-04-16 18:41Just watched The news and the guys off Two Rocks, being terrorized by that great white shark. What a mob of WANKERS, Teasing the shark with bait on a rope. What heros. They were terrorized by it for three hours It hit the boat with its tail they feared for there lives..NO it was just looking for the free feed you kept throwing to it. Pitty one of them didnt fall in. This is why the sharks come to the boats because dickheads throw food to them. Well they got there five minutes of fame. Well done guys .F^%$WITS Next boat it comes to For a free feed could have divers in the water.

I plan to do a heap of fishing and if it looks ok I'll jump in for a dive too.

New Lifestyle Fishing Show?
Submitted by Formerathlete on Tue, 2013-04-16 09:12So while the family was sitting around the dinner table I had to endure one of the usual garbage lifestyle shows. It was then that I sarcastically floated my idea for a new TV Lifestyle Show which would capture genuine interest... Fishing!
I said I might take my concept to the TV networks and make a fortune: A bunch of teams are selected and they are given weekly fishing challenges - boat fishing, beach, rocks, estuary, trolling, bottom bouncing, jigging, spinning etc. You could even have special elimination challenges like fish filleting, ‘guess the fish species’ and so on. Anything but NOT fish cooking!
My idea attracted the usual amount of disinterest until I suggested a name for the show: Australia’s Master Baiter!
Back to the doghouse...

re-wire furuno 10 pin transducer to 8 pin Fuji female plug
Submitted by meglodon on Tue, 2013-04-16 00:09Hi
Can anybody help me with a problem. I'm going to purchase a furuno 525 transducer that only comes with a 10 pin plug. Now I have a fcv 582 unit that requires a 8 pin female Fuji plug.
I don't want to purchase a conversion lead as the prices I've been quoted are laughable. (I live on a pension)
Can anyone tell me if they have had the same problem and how they solve it. I'ld like to have a 8 pin plug fitted if it can be.
Thanks for any help offered in advance

Melbourne charters (or Vic FW members happy to take a bloke out)
Submitted by Ben Derecki on Mon, 2013-04-15 21:43I will be in Melbourne in the next week or so and would like to head out and have a crack at some of the infamous Pt Phillip Bay gummies without ending up on one of the local ripoff WA charter equivalents.
Can any Melbournites, or WA peeps who have been out in Melbourne, give me some ideas of who to check out? Or if you're in Melbourne and an option to head out in a week I'll be happy to hear from you...

Okuma Salina 2 and 3
Submitted by PH1L on Mon, 2013-04-15 20:58Hi,
I'm just wondering what is the difference between the salina 2 and 3 apart from one of them is being newer. do they share the same frame and internal?
or the difference between then are just cosmetics
I loooked at Okuma USA website and notice that the new version havent been released yet (i know that in the states they called cedros).. from my understanding if okuma have new reel to be introduced they would introduce the reel in USA first then australia for example the Cortez and much more
cheers,
phil
Land based overhead combo
Submitted by jfawkes on Mon, 2013-04-15 19:49Would this suit for one?
As you can see I don't want to spend to much money.
It would be mainly used for ballooning by the way.
If anyone has any other very cheap suggestions please list.
